This is how I feel. I kind of want to do my side gig full time and then quit my full time job so I can be my own boss all the time. I make more per hr doing my side gig than my 8:30-6 job. There are days where I just want to lay in bed and not go in. Or even take a hike like you said. I like to be adventurous and explore and travel. I honestly feel stuck at my job.
This sounds like a healthy realization at where you are at in your journey - but for someone in a strict (and possibly exhausting) 9-5, the idea of work-life balance might be an incredible step forward towards sanity, health, and a true life. Boundaries - and clear boundaries like the idea of work-life balance become necessary and healthy when something isn't being listened to - and something else is steamrolling. When you are your own boss, then the idea of work-life balance might serve as a temporary tool to help you wake up more to something, and take a meaningful step towards what you are describing as being in the flow. When you aren't your own boss, and are operating in less-than holistically healthy and awake structures (like a big business, government office or other org) - then we can think of the idea of work life balance as a necessary tool or concept to create coherence within a system... just like if you are your own boss and need the idea temporarily, except here because we're mediating between individuals and within a system, we need more formal ideas and tools to do that work. As any system becomes more coherent and aligned with the larger whole, these tools won't need to be so formal... even with big organizations it would seem to me. But we might be hundreds of years away from that sort of thing.
Haha can't wait to tell my boss I feel like taking a hike so I won't be able to get the project done by the deadline 😂. Just kidding I know that it's different for different people. It is important to listen to your body if you can

So true, key is to be your own boss so you can dictate your schedule to what fits for you
