I think I was born to late I wish I was back in days when Roscoe play good music like that , I can still remember when We used to gather on the porch on a Saturday night and played till Sunday morning then still get ready to go to Church I was about 6 years old at that time I played a harmonica , Now at the age of 59 I play Guitar Banjo and Fiddle and I still play the harmonica .
This song got me through depression. I'd trudge through the day listening to it on repeat. With this as my theme song, I could have walked through hell on snowshoes.
Life throws razor blades at us ..but Rosco Holcomb there for a helping hand ..I believe in strong conviction..that's why I never waver .. we're survivors
Lyrics On top of Old Smokey All covered with snow I lost my true lover for courting too slow. For courting's a pleasure but parting is grief, One false hearted true-lover is worse than a thief They'll hug you and kiss you And tell you more lies Than crossties on a railroad or stars in the sky Your parents they are against me They say I'm too poor They say that I'm unworthy of entering your door I know that I drink Whiskey But my money is my own And if they don't like me they can leave me all alone Gonna build me a log cabin On top of some rise Where the wild birds and the pretty woman can hear my sad cries
With ths strings you have on the Weymann, you can play his base line on either side of the first fret. What a remarkable video. Start Wars of old country.
My beautiful uncle. My Dad's brother. God what good music..and singing. I listened him many times on our front porch.
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing.

It makes me believe in what's really true ..not to follow...stand in what you believe in .till the end
This is a really spirited performance.

On top of Old Smokey
All covered with snow
I lost my true lover for courting too slow.
For courting's a pleasure but parting is grief,
One false hearted true-lover is worse than a thief
They'll hug you and kiss you
And tell you more lies
Than crossties on a railroad or stars in the sky
Your parents they are against me
They say I'm too poor
They say that I'm unworthy of entering your door
I know that I drink Whiskey
But my money is my own
And if they don't like me they can leave me all alone
Gonna build me a log cabin
On top of some rise
Where the wild birds and the pretty woman can hear my sad cries
Roscoe Holcomb... Hazel Dickens... two earthy legends, with piercing voices, haunting yet pure....that resonate true, through the mists of time.
So awesome

Thank you for this. Do you know of any footage of Roscoe playing harmonica?
There's one clip of him playing Barbry Allen in entirety online.
