Pettorano sul Gizio è arroccato su uno spuntone di roccia calcareo.
Ha una caratteristica unica, quella di essere l'unico centro abitato presente in una riserva regionale.

My maternal grandfather, Vincenzo Checca, was born in Pettorano sul Gizio in 1894 and immigrated to the USA in 1910. In 1914, he returned to Italy to fight in the Italian army during WW1 (Don't ask me why.). After the war, my grandfather returned to the USA never to return to Italy. I visited Petorano sul Gizio in 2013. It appears to have changed little since my grandfather's time. My original plan was to retire to Italy when I retire at the end of 2026 as I have UK citizenship. However, BREXIT threw a spanner into my plans. I'm now planning to retire to Argentina.
