    I just found your video today 3/10/24...and I know you made this 8 years ago, I hope you get this comment. 🤗 Thank you for this tutorial...I have been on the fence about buying a lucet...don't know how often I would use one, and they seem a bit expensive. Your braid is nice and square...and best of all...no expense except for the yarn. Thank you for posting this (8 years ago ) and solving my dilemma today. Wishing you the best. 🤗

    This is genius. And some really good tips for lucetting too - fingers or fork. Thank you

    It's a lovely technique because you don't need to prepare a certain length of yarn beforehand, you can just braid it until you have the desired length

    Lucet weaving with your fingers illustrate just how easy the technique is. I made my lucet from a deer antler, and I just love it!

    I came across this video initially a couple of years ago. Since then I've made miles of cord using this technique... I do it only slightly different from you, though. I am right handed and I find it easier to mount the loops on my left hand. I also snug up the loops slightly differently, but not sure how to explain it. I might just have to make my own video to demonstrate that. The end result is the same. I mostly use the cord for drawstrings on market bags. I'm looking forward to using a naalbinding technique to make the body of my market bags soon. I just need to practice a bit more. I hope you're still reading the comments from this excellent video you made more than 3 years ago now. It is still useful

      Thanks Helen Always great to hear stories of people evolving techniques into their own style. I would love to see a video of your style. I have had a break from video production. I have some time off from my day job so hope to post a new video soon. Pat

    Thank you for making this so clear. Although I would like to get a lucet, I am attempting to make my own using polymer clay, and then would like to make my own cords as well, to go with some of the other polymer clay things I make. Now, I can learn the technique before I have a working lucet.

    I like using my lucet for making thick cords but it's so hard on my hands. I have a lot of arthritis everywhere, which makes crafting so much more painful these days. I was just thinking the other night, is there a way to make a lucet braid without the fork? TH-cam must have heard my thoughts (spooky) because this came up in my recommendations even though I never searched for it! Thanks so much for answering my question 8 years ago LOL When I get back to the braid I sat down last year, I will try it this way instead.

    Hi, I really enjoyed your tutorial. I am going to look at your other channels, so the answer may be there. I was wondering how to do a complete color change in one braid/cord? Right now I am thinking maybe a surgeon's knot. However I want to to make thick cords, somI would have to knot each strand of yarn. Do you have any suggestions?

    i was so excited to try this but my yarn is too thin i guess. I just keep making a knot that doesnt move

    What can we do/make with the cord? What next?

    • @weavewithpat
      @weavewithpat  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stephanie You can use it in your weaving to make a very thick soumak weave. Or you can knit it on big needles. I have also done finger crochet with it to make seat covers. Cheers Pat

      Good ideas!! Well how about this one: You can use it as a strap for a bag, a hair tie or hair extensions or make a bracelet or a necklace!! What'd you think?

      @@weavewithpat How do we end the soumak weaving with the lucet thread on the tapestry?

  • @occipitalneuralgia2339
    @occipitalneuralgia2339 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well, I can make cord on Lucet, but on my stubby fat fingers not at all. Also, the initial slip knot creates a tight knot and then subsequent loops can’t be tightened. played this video multiple times and slowed the speed down too. Frustrating not to figure it out. Going back to my handmade dinner fork Lucet.

    Wish I had seen this before I ruined one of my dinner forks to make a Lucit.
