This one got me. My dad died of a heart attack on a fly fishing trip with my brother in New Mexico. We live in Wisconsin so he was a long way away as well. While it wasn't the coast guard, there were wonderful people there as well to help take care of my 12 year old brother.
What a wonderful tribute to his dad. Sad Elijah’s dad passed but honestly from the moment his heart attack started he had professional care. His son is a physical therapist (Ph.D.). He would have been well trained in CPR as were the Coast Guard crew and the paramedics all the way to hospital. Perhaps his dad was ready to go having achieved his dream. How amazing that they had the video and photos to commemorate his last joyful adventure.

ALRIGHT!!!! Who started chopping onions during the last 5 minutes of this episode?!?! That was a beautiful tribute to his dad. I just lost mine on April 17th and one of my favorite memories of him was 2 chartered fishing trips that we took on the Chesapeake Bay. USCG keep up the great work!
RIP Pastor, you got to be with God doing what was your dream. Thank you Coast Guard for always being there like angels when people need you most. I cried when you were with his son fishing. Such a heartwarming and caring thing to do for him. An extraordinary act of kindness that makes my heart happy.
I realize this video is over a year old and the chances that Elijah will ever read this is slim, but I would like to express my sincere condolences for your family's loss. I will bet that your dad was looking down on you, watching you pull in that salmon and was 'atta boying' you the whole time. Water, whether it's an ocean, lake, river or pond, is a special place to be. It refreshes and cleanses us and is as necessary to us as air and food. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. I shed a tear as you scattered your dad's ashes in the ocean and am sure he will be out there watching over other fishermen for decades to come. Heather🇨🇦
I've watched many videos with Rescue Swimmer Chris Belisle and he is one hell of a man. This particular hoist was, it seems, flawlessly executed. Chris himself is an angel on wings. Incredible man, such care and compassion.

To the dear son who lost his dad, I’m so terribly sorry. Half the fun of an adventure is in the planning. And you two planned this great adventure and you made that dream come true. Please find comfort in the joy this brought your dad and all the years you talked and planned for this. I know he went a happy man. Bless you.
I'm watching this with tears in my eyes. What a wonderful tribute to that Pastor. I've seen Jayhawks, Blackhawks, Seahawks and Pavehawks come in for landings at various airshows and it really is a sight to see. I can only imagine what that would be like in an emergency situation. They are big, powerful beasts that leave you in awe when one comes roaring over you. God bless these folks and the work they do.
This, more than any other episode I've seen, really shows how important all that training & checklist items are. You could hear how intense the situation was & there is no doubt these guys were rushing but they did not compromise their safety or the safety of others. They said & performed all their checklist items same as they always do. Its one of the things I learned in the military too & it stuck with me to this day long after my enlistment was up.
To go even MORE above & beyond & take the Annv. fishing trip to celebrate the life of one's father.....there are no words that can be said without tears following. Such deep compassion & kindest. Love you COAST GUARD!!!!!
I have watched this video a few times over the years and this episode always hits me hard. I don't know how to express how proud Elijah's father would no-doubt be for him to take this horrible event and turn it into something positive that may help to save another life by working towards having these charter boats outfitted with AEDs. This 'young man' (to me, haha) is of good character and compassion. May your father continue to smile on you and your family, Elijah.
