Getting my dog to actually stay still is me hardest thing. He just got so anxious. Love the stay and distractions in the beginning. That is something we never did
Lisa, thank you...this is great timing & excellent information! My Aussie & I love running Agility, but this past year we haven't had a startline stay I can count on, she holds it everywhere except at the trials. I've always giving her loads of reinforcement for waiting but shall try applying this new approach. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise & keep up the great work!!...❤🐾🐾❤
I've worked on my dog's startline for 4 +years, including several online courses and group classes and private startline lessons. Her startline is FABULOUS until there is excitement.. Then she either doesn't sit or follows me as I walk away. I have NEVER--not once-- let us run when I asked for a sitstay and didn't get it. (For the last year, I have run with a slingshot and haven't asked for a sit stay.) My previous 8 dogs have had no startline problems, so my training--warts and all--has worked until now. Do you think you can help me?? I do want to finish this year's trial season (thru mid-October) using my slingshot start.
I've definitely got some unique ideas! I've got your contact info so I can ask more questions & see some video so I can make suggestions geared specifically toward your dog :)
1:25 "Do you drop the hotdog, the soda, or let the ball hit you?"... Wait a minute. I know the answer to this. Ball parks let you bring your dogs sometimes. Just take your Australian Shepherd with you. He'll catch it, easily! He'll probably just go for it without you saying anything. Oh yeah, the start line.

What is your biggest challenge at the dog agility start line?
