Crazy to sue people you have so few degrees of separation with. Pat, friend of AJ, and Aaron, who Brett was teammates with both. And to sue Shannon, brother of Sterling, one of his best receivers. No way this lawsuit doesn't get thrown out but what a terrible way to handle this

The funniest thing about him stealing that money, is the first question he had was whether or not it would make him look bad. It's all he cares about, which is crazy considering the amount of times he's burned down bridges and been completely egotistical.
In the United States, it is almost impossible for a public figure to win a defamation case. Even getting a court to accept the lawsuit is difficult. Favre would have to supply solid evidence that Pat KNOWINGLY told lies, which served to advance his career and also, that Pat continued to KNOWINGLY repeat those lies with complete indifference or malice.
That Malice Standard is the hardest component to prove because Pat would basically have to confess that he intentionally lied because he wanted to turn a profit by harming Favre's reputation.
Jesse Ventura is one of the few celebrities, that I am aware of, that actually won a defamation lawsuit. He sued that American Sniper guy (Chris Kyle, I think). He also went thru a few crucial steps that can have a huge impact on whether or not the lawsuit will stand. He sent several "Cease and Desist" letters to Kyle and the publisher that specified the false claims and also provided evidence that the claims were false.
Most judges won't even entertain a lawsuit unless those things were done first. It's meant to demonstrate that the plaintiff tried to correct the record and was not simply trying to silence critics with frivolous lawsuits (Which is what Favre seems to be doing here). SLAPP Suits are a preferred tactic of rich D-bags that wish to conceal the details of their fraud. At this point, Favre may as well create a crypto-coin/NFT scam... it'd be more honest.
if not for Sterling’s injury, he would have been his best wr and in the HOF (I believe he should be in anyway). Had 90 receptions in 1990, 108 in 1992 (breaking Art Monk’s record at the time), 112 in 1993 (breaking his own record), and similar pro bowl numbers in 1994 (these numbers were hardly the norm back then). Oh, and he was only 5”10 or 5”11. Seeing how Favre hit his peak in 1995 onward, who knows what Sharpe’s numbers would have been had he played on.

I mean, he kind of may have a case. Granted, I think Favre is 100% in the wrong on all counts and stole from the poor of Mississippi by getting funds transferred to his daughter's school that should have gone to schools in need.
But you can't say he stole from them because legally he didn't. I cannot remember McAfee's exact words but he talked about the incident a lot and he may have said something in there which could count as defamation. Such as waiting to say allegedly until too far after the defamatory statement.
I'm rooting for McAfee and hopefully he never made any mistakes so this whole thing will blow over painlessly.

@@mitchelll3879 There have been plenty of clown show depositions. You can find a ton of them right here on TH-cam. Have you watched the Dave Portnoy deposition? When there are clown cases like this one, the depositions usually end up pretty clownish.
Why? He'll be answering questions the same as anybody else. To think he'd act like a tool in depo. like he does here is pretty stupid.
What everyone missed is the mild threat when Pat mentioned "discovery". What that means is that he can get access to Favre's text messages, phone calls, emails, bank accounts etc. It would be a thousand times more embarring for Favre than anything Pat has said.
What's even funnier is Pat's Lawyers are able to ask Mr Brett Favre questions under oath in their own deposition. So I can't wait for those "leaks" to make their way out. I can't see Favre going through with this 😂

This case should never make it to discovery because any reasonable judge would dismiss it on 12(b)(6). If all factual assertions made by Brett Farve are taken as true, the claims are not plausible.
