That is undisputed. As we learned traveling to Russia in 2020, and playing both St Petersburg and Moscow, a lot of Russians do not see them self as European which to us seemed a bit odd. So I think some Russians sees EU as a symbol for Europe and that was probably the reason they (Russian fans) wanted to wave the EU flag during this song. If they just wanted to wave the flag as a cool effect for the song or if there was more symbolism behind it, we will never know.
