Spring Branch, Texas then, I was at a pool to take my first swimming lesson and heard this song, thought it was cool. Found out it was Hermans Hermits, I'm Henry the Eighth I am.. Had to digest the line, "never was a Willie or a Sam". I came to conclusion it was an incredible song. I sang the lines for years.

I saw Herman's Hermits at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D C in 1967. I was twelve years old and it was my very first concert. I have every American album of theirs still. I saw Peter again in the 1980's in Virginia in concert along with The Monkees. He sounds wonderful still, and I loved this show. I am still smiling as I type this! Thanks so much for such happy memories.

Seeing this interview actually gave me a different take on Herman’s Hermits as a professional band, not just a pop group. As Petr Noone says, in the beginning, they played the Cavern Club and I figure they were up there with Gerry and the Pacemakers, Freddie and the Dreamers and so on. Micky Most was also quite a guy back then. True what he says about kids back then living through music like his sister who never spoke to anyone having all these romantic songs speaking for her. Kids back then paid more attention to pop songs than school education. They did not know much about history but they knew all the lyrics to 'Kind of Hush.' As to Hermans Hermits evolving as a band, If you watch the clip on TH-cam from 'No Milk Today' 1966 on Hessen Rundfunk German TV, you can clearly see how they sharpened up their act in just one year. Peter might remember back in 1980 when a little college station, WFCS, did a 'No Milk Today' marathon. I was part of it, and he called into the station for an interview while I was doing one of my on air shifts. He was very nice! We thought we had really hit the big time!
I remember seeing Hermans Hermits at Kool Deadwood Nights in 2008 and Bay City Rollers, , and eating at Kevin Costner's restaurant Jakes, really enjoyed the evening.

Traveled the 90 miles to Sacramento to see HH on July 16, 1967. They were the headliner, but were supported by THE WHO, Blues Magoos and I think there was another band as well. My first concert. Age 16. Good times.
Fun interview! I fell for Herman's Hermits when I was a teen in the 70s, haunted thrift shops for their albums & listened to them every day. Great songs! Peter is still a cutie!

I was a "techno-geek" in those days packing around a newly released cassette recorder in the mid-60s and this was one song on it. Simple lyrics that the Herman's Hermits were so good at. Hey, it's a small world - I did a show with Led Zeppelin.... back when. Maybe they remember me?
I laid down so many tracks where I never knew who the singer was going to be but that was ok - we always got paid.
We were such a good backup band, 95% of the songs we recorded were done in ONE take...nothing wrong with that.
