Future Motion didn't invent the onewheel. Louis Rossman did a video on it recently. The original patent was in 2001 by Ben Smither and put together in 2007- and Kyle Doerksen took that idea and commercialized it, but the onewheel PEV idea is not his.

Actually the 2001 patent was from Segway, Ben Smithers was the first to build one and then one or two others built them under open source licenses and there was even an instructable for how to build one posted. I have a feeling Kyle just copied that instructable and then turned it into the kickstarter project, the timeline certainly seems to suggest that.

@@thirtythreeeyes8624 I dont know how mentioning segway is relevent to this at all they make completely different devices that are nothing like Onewheels the only similarities they have is that they are both make balancing devices, but both companies have their own patents on there products. also, Ben Smither didn’t patent his invention and from watching his video, it’s also called a balancing scooter not a Onewheel ya dangus.

Thanks for sharing the video, I live in California 1.5 hrs from FM, I ride eskate and also have a few EUCs from KS and Inmotion, I like the idea of having options that's why FM doesn't appeal to me. Do you regret the purchase for the floatwheel?thinking of purchasing one, on the fence because get better range and speed from my EUC but am a snowboarder and love the stance of a OW
I don't regret it at all. I had two issues with it during 2000 miles but Tony got me covered right away by sending the parts I needed. I love the service and the board is insanely strong!

I do for different reasons don't act like you know me or what's on my mind 😂 I love the floatwheel and yeah loosing trust towards FM but I respect what have they done and I am aware we would not even under this video discussing this topic without FM making the sport global. So I wish for them to get to their senses and regain trust within the community. So you are wrong my friend ✌️

@gergosnoo IDK, I feel like a onewheel(lowercase to use it as a generic noun) would've been brought to market by someone eventually, during the rise of personal transporter EVs. I mean, look at the electric unicycle, which I find _far weirder,_ but has a pretty big segment of the market already.
