The character arc of of the knight from day 1 overcoming his fears to scare away the ghost is one of the most profound developments in 1992 Lego history.
I love slugger because he feels like one of the few channels that approaches the toys with a true sense of whimsy and joy as opposed to products designed to gather dust on a shelf. This was a great little video.
This hand drawn art style is so full of charm and whimsy - nearly on the same level as the old product photography. I could stare at this for hours… 😊👍

The knight getting spooked by the ghost on day 1 seems to be the same knight chasing off the ghost on day 23. Perhaps he got some revenge by spooking the ghost back!
I don't get to look at old technic sets very often, but man, that raw "all work" asthetic they give is so much cooler than the more polished sets today. I love the technic bricks and how they are featured in full display
@@RRSlugger easy to spot for one who's spent years playing with it! I've made some time ago a custom list on rebrickable that contains all my childhood sets -- I browsed through ALL the LEGO sets in the catalog and went "I had this one, not that one, not that one, etc" 😅. So just went to that list to find it. I didn't remember what year it was from, and since the advent calendar is for 1992 I assumed it'd be featuring sets from 1991, it's nice to see that's not the case :) .
I coveted 6673 for such a long time - I was always lusting after anything Lego made that resembled a realistic airplane or spacecraft, and the Solo Trainer was no exception. My parents refused to get it for me as they said I could just build it at home with the parts I had.

It was a real nostalgia trip seeing Lego Technic set 8856 (Whirlwind Rescue) front and centre there. I was so excited when I got that as a kid, only to feel heartbroken when the extremely delicate flex system cables cracked during assembly, and snapped completely when I tried to disassemble it. It angered me that Lego would release such an expensive set with critical parts so fragile and easily broken.

Threw me off guard - saw the first flap open and was disappointed there was nothing there like in modern advent calendars, nothing to build. However, as it went on, I realized the charm this advent calendar has. Its silly but fun and you can tell someone worked hard on it. That is what makes it special.
This is such a cute idea, but I am irrationally upset that they depicted such a lovely train plus a train station and not a SINGLE door was on them! Why does Lego hate its train fans? :(
I recognize so many of our old sets on there ... OMG... I loved the Plane... And it as well as some others were used by my son as well... this is awesome ^^
3:30 - those paper hearts are a tradition that is very, very deeply rooted in the Danish christmas setup. We call them "Christmas hearts". Extremely traditional, and extremely abundant :)
This is so much more fun than an advent calendar full of little sets that I’ll build one time. I’d have opened this year after year if I had it as a kid.
The sets on display brings back memories from my childhood. I'm actually looking at that castle on one of my shelves right now, and I also have that plane. I remember all the other sets on display, although I didn't got them. Really nice advent calendar, and great reaction from you. Thanks for sharing this experience!
Didn't expect to see an Advent Calendar from five years before I was born here. It is definitely amazing that something like this could be perfectly preserved for 32 years after the fact, given how Lego Advent Calendars didn't start having bricks in them until 1998. Even though the year of 1992 is somewhat rarely covered by most creators in recent memory, I was somewhat surprised to not see the "Pirates" theme represented in this calendar, though I do understand why they presumably weren't present in spite of the theme's popularity at the time. It is an interesting choice for them to have the "Black Knight's Castle (6086) prominently featured on this, in spite of how that theme conventionally wasn't depicted in a snowy setting. Of note, the portcullis at 4:58 actually debuted in that set, and appeared in its origin color of the old dark gray for ten years, last appearing in that color in the "Off-Road Racetrack" (4588) from September 2002. Between then, this part also appeared in "Mata brown" (often called "Old brown" to distinguish from later shades) in two sets (6076 and 6082) from the "Dragon Masters/Dragon Knights" theme in 1993, and also appeared in the Pirates "Skull Island" set (6279) in 1995. The same year, this part appeared in yellow as part of the "Neptune Discovery Lab" (6195) from Aquazone, and would also debut in black in another set (6190) from that theme in 1996. Becoming the most common color of this part overall, though the only sets I had containing it were a Batman set (7783) from 2006, and 2008 "Agents" set (8634) which I obtained as a late Christmas gift in mid-February of 2009. And those are just some of the 26 sets this part appeared in over eighteen years.
2:15 Yes, that is a Duplo set! My family had that, but the red parts were blue, the yellow parts were white, and it had jects instead of propellers. Same exact wings and there's a clip on the landing gear piece that can attack to the trailer hitch on a Duplo car, truck, or train car of the era.

It's an interesting little callendar for sure. Some of the paper flaps just plain have nothing interesting on them, being a simple cutout of the sky, or the snow, so they could be removed wholesale without ruining the whole of the image, leaving the picture behind bare for good. Other flaps add to the image, so it would be a shame to get rid of them, as both they and the surprise work too well to be lost. But leaving the flaps open and attached would mar the picture with these unseemly white squares as the back of the flap is on display. Best solution would probably be to pull the flaps off, but save them so they can be stuck on again as desired. Surprise 12 is the only one that doesn't "work" really, as the random foot is meant to disappear "behind" the picture, but that makes it out of place as a part of the picture itself. That's the only flap that works better closed for good.
