  • Ireland’s Native Trees is a series of short movies funded by the Creative Ireland Programme. Different trees have been selected and a short film created focusing on each individual tree species. In each movie, we explore how to identify the tree, what role the tree plays in supporting biodiversity and what the tree does for us - eco-system services. The movie’s are for anyone with an interest in Ireland’s native trees to learn how to identify them and on their importance in the Irish landscape. The movie is shot by Charlie Joe Gallagher in the wonderful Glenveagh National Park and narrated by Aengus Kennedy of NatureNorthWest. This episode talks about Holly.

A wonderful series of talks , thoughtfully compiled with beautiful imagery. It has made me appreciate the native trees in my own garden and puts into context their value to our selves and our native wild life / habitat. You have a wonderful tone & structure to your narration which keeps us all intrigued.
As a concept , bite sized programs exploring groups of subjects…native trees, could we not have more native subjects such as birds beasts and insects + plus Native plants, flowers & fungi.

0:38 Arbutus Unedo, the strawberry tree, is a native evergreen tree which is not a conifer.

Another beautiful film. There’s an 8’ holly tree in our garden but it’s in the wrong location. Would it be possible to transplant a tree of that size?
