Just wrapped up Cas's decluttering Sept challenge, so this is a great time to keep the momentum going and learn from your insights and tips to "get ready" for the holidays!! Thanks for leading and being open and honest, because I'm learning since focusing on this immensely since August 2023 and am learning that even after you "think" you are done, you will need to either do maintenance and go over things often OR like me, I feel like I follow the onion method where I declutter, feel like I'm "done" and then after my mind gets use to the new level, I will see more that can go! 😏
Wow what you wrote I thought the same thing. I’ve been decluttering on and off for the last 6 plus yrs and my step son said he was coming to visit us, first time ever and it spurred me into action late July. 80-90 garbage bags, 90% should have been donated but I don’t have the bandwidth to having a lot of things around, so mentally it was easier to send it to the dump. I now have a home I’m proud of and love the decluttering process and really look at my home differently. Doing Cass 30 day challenge was wonderful and I’m definitely looking forward to this moths 🥰
Hurricane Helene sure helped me out with spontaneous combustion in Gulfport, Florida...well maybe not exactly...I have to physically carry out waterlogged belongings...too bad I did not get rid of it before it got wet! This absolutely motivates me to get rid of more right now so that I do not have to stuff shuffle during repairs later. I'm dehydrated, sunburned, stinky, sweaty, injured, and exaustipated but determined to keep going. We lost 2/3 of everything we own including both our cars and have extensive damage to our home. We are still living in it & shutting off breakers at night to keep from burning it down in our sleep. It is rough but very freeing! Most of the decisions regarding decluttering have been made for me by Hurricane Helene. Whew! Honestly, I think that's the hardest part… I hate decision, fatigue! Good luck everyone on this challenge! I'm doing it with you!
I didn't really want to "thumbs up" as I am sorry for all the loss you've had. You have an AMAZING attitude, and that I can definitely "thumbs up." Praying for you all.
I agreed work the other comments that your attitude is a huge “pro” amidst this massive “con” that you’re living through! I’m so glad you’re motivated to join this October challenge! Please keep commenting with your progress and reflections! We can all learn a lot from your experience and perspective! ✨🙏🏼
I wrote a comment and I think it just got deleted somehow… What an experience you are having and good luck with everything! Please keep on commenting as your reflections are so inspiring to read!
@@nurse-diana a Fire decluttered my house in one afternoon. in 2015 we had lost everything in a house fire. It didn’t all burn, but the smoke damage was beyond anything being salvaged. I didn’t even cry. I felt free. Maybe I’m crazy, but I knew that I never wanted to own that much STUFF again. I never wanted to spend that much TIME again. Cleaning was so difficult and demanding- and then I was free. Free of China and depression glass and things that I never used - etc etc. I’m so very sorry for you and so many others. So sorry for the (people) who are deemed missing. It’s a long process to rebuild, but I agree with you. Let the stuff go. Anything you can. Under all that clutter was the space that I saw when we first bought the house. I had made my house so small by owning too much
That’s so cool! My eldest kid is going to be 13 on the 26th!!! I think it JUST hit me in typing this that he will officially be a teen in a week! Ack! 🎉😂
This is awesome 👏🏼 I like to have a plan. So I wrote down my kitchen with specific areas I will work on. There’s a bunch of cookbooks and unused dishes in a cupboard. Then another area of pots and pans that are just out of control. Then the ugly cupboard that is the medicine cabinet and stash for baking stuff. Yeah 👍🏼 I’m excited 🎊 🎉
After moving from six rooms with two bathrooms into three rooms with one bath, I had five sets of sheets and probably six sets of towels. I am down to four sheet sets and four towel sets. As things fall apart, I eliminate them. I have given multiple bedding items to a friend whose nephew has rental property. The towels have gone to an animal shelter. It takes a while but it can be done. By the way, I’m from Wheeling, West Virginia, USA.
The 20/20 rule was ruined for me during the supply chain issues. I couldn't find deck screws or the right hardware items that would have normally been so cheap and plentiful! I was digging through grandpa's big jar of screws to make do.
I spent the whole day with a "decluttered" dog. No chip, not spayed, gets car sick. We're all trying to find it a home. Anyone know of a foster place in northern Alabama? Anyway, It's taken all day, still no takers, and I missed the challenge kickoff.
Found a spot. The shelter was excited to get her since the dog is very adoptable and so sweet. She is healthy too. Fingers crossed she lands a great home!
