Thank goodness you have returned to the 3002 year old guitar! I couldn't wait for you guys on my first build so of course I blame you for all my neck mistakes;) On the second one I set up the scale length to the "wrong" side of the nut...turns out you can make a "headstock placement" nut position, at least I found one pictured in Trevor Gore's book. I have taken an Anti-Chris tack on my building, use the ryoba saw to rip the neck blanks and my #7.5 and 4 Stanelys to clean them up, my Stanley #45 combo plane for the truss rod and carbon rod grooves. After 45 years of wood butcher carpentry, I'm way tired of safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, dust, and I need the upper body workout anyway. Great to see this build resume, thanks!
For the CNC cutting of the neck, if you want a better finish, I recommend first cutting around .010" away from the final profile, then doing a finish pass at full depth of cut. You can also slow it down for the finish pass. At least that's how it's typically done for metals and plastics.

Repeatability is important and I can see the value of CNC for that reason. Having said that, of all guitar building processes, for me the most satisfying is building a neck from scratch using a bandsaw for roughing and a few of well cared for quality hand tools. But hey that’s just me. I enjoy these videos a lot as entertaining time killers but continuity is not this channel’s long suit.
There's no denying the accuracy, repeatability and quality here but for me I like doing it by hand. I find the process cathartic and rewarding, even if it does take longer.

Thanks for the video and glad you are back in production again. I have enjoyed your videos since I found them and actually became a patron . Here is a good tip for CNC setup or alignment. Clamp or tape & superglue a board to the bed of the CNC then machine a straight edge on the board and that is your edge that you use to determine your axis to and an easy way to set the neck blank to when tape and supergluing to the CNC bed. Although you may not get rid of the chatter with a 3" bit (that is part of the problem) you can make your initial cut a couple of thousands from the final edge and do a few final passes to clean up the chatter. Do you show how you make the mortise and tendon joint?

Suggestion for you Chris. Cut your profile in less passes, but add an allowance of 10 1000ths (experiment with how much). Then do a final full depth cut to remove the allowance (and chatter). Another tip, buy a roughing end mill and do some testing with it, you'll be happy to see how effective they are at hogging out material.
Love watching your videos as I’ve learned a ton. I understand wanting to make the neck rigid with the carbon fiber rods. Have you ever seen where the extra reinforcement won’t allow the truss rod to work? Or maybe it puts too much stress on the wood around the truss rod? Just a thought I had while watching you try and flex the carbon fiber rods.
I’ll be honest, I’ve done some research into what I can get for a kidney when I found out these things are roughly the cost of a mid-level Corolla.

In case you are looking to ditch the straight bit, Amana makes a 3in and 4in, 3-flute downcut spiral bit. They are not cheap, though, so it may not be worth it.
The both of you have inspired me to dabble on a guitar in my shop. I love working with wood but this is a new level of attention to detail. Sure it will be a total disaster but is fun and interesting. Thanks guys! Cant wait for your next video.
Glad y’all are back, I must say, after waiting so long for the neck it was a little disappointing to see it be mostly CNC. I understand you’ve done neck videos before etc, but after so many videos meticulously highlighting process this one felt lacking, a bit anticlimactic… I say that as someone who is a huge fan of yours and has watched just about every video, and I’ve watched this series twice through! So please don’t think I’m just complaining like someone inevitably does on every one of your amazing videos. After searching for other luthier builders it’s easy to see that y’all are by far the best. Glad you’re back at it and your business is growing.
Agree. Seems pointless having a series and then skipping the neck carving, and using CNC. Presumably thety got bored with the series, or you tube algorithm doesn't like series. Shame.

Chris I want to see how the StewMac truss rod works out with the extended tongue on the neck block. Will you need a long allen wrench to adjust the rod?
In a PRS factory tour they mention that they let the necks sit for like 2 weeks between the rough shape mill and the next pass to allow the natural tension in the wood to come out. I'm curious to hear your opinion on this: is this overkill? is it something that is only possible at factory scale? does the addition of carbon fiber counteract any tension that is left after the first mill? or do you also wait and edit it out because lumber sitting on a shelf is not particularly engaging content?
