I know three guys, two in special forces, who loved the 06 Auto and used it extensively on deployment. Finally was able to get a used one and it’s a beast. No complaints whatsoever.
I got issued mine for a 2007 deployment to Iraq. Used and abused for the past 17 years. No problems whatsoever. Btw I noticed some differences between your knife and mine, so maybe the ones they're selling today might be slight variants of what was made in '06.
Thank you for your honest review and for letting us know about the red loctite. I have never taken any of my 80+ knives apart. But I only use them as gentlemen folders so no need to. But I do carry a knife daily. I was considering buying one but always considered them overpriced. After your review, I think I'll pass. I own three SOG Seal XR knives and really love this beast of a knife. A good alternative to the 06. Check it out.
Thank you for your comment, buddy. That SOG XR is a great knife, I completely agree. And even though I got the 06 working well, nobody should have to take it apart to make it work well so I can’t recommend it. Stick with those SOGs my friend.
I'm glad to see an honest review.. I've seen some other honest reviews of people not being impressed and some people in the comments get awful butt hurt about it lol like they own stock in the company or something. I love the look of these knives but once I saw how slow it is, I'm holding off. It almost seems like the g10 version may be a little faster but I'm not sure. From doing knife videos myself, I noticed that doing a video actually makes knives look faster than what they really are and yet the Gerber 06 is REALLY slow looking on video. I'm glad I checked on TH-cam first. I noticed immediately that your's is faster. If I had one as fast as your's, I'd like it. However, I'm biased and spoiled and I think all auto knives are too slow because I bought a fake Benchmade Stimulus or Mini Stimulus {not sure which, probably mini} and it is so damn fast it looks like an OTF! that was my first auto knife. Not the best place to start because it makes it hard to deal with any other knife lol. After 5 or so toes opening it, it gets blade play so I need some red loctite but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
If you try to replace the spring with the ones from Knifekits they do NOT fit. But I came up with a fix. th-cam.com/video/LslK5cSq4qc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=d-MDXqaAY3Y66RrT
Got me a Gerber, got me a Boker. 200.00 for the Gerber, 49.99 for the Boker. I carry that Boker everywhere. I'm a farmer and rancher, retired paramedic and firefighter. I wouldn't endorse Gerber on a bet! Leatherman either! Got 35 Chinese knocks off that outperform Gerber and Leatherman. Junk is junk, even if it is American made!
Im typing this before watching the full video Same issue i don't own it yet might give it back to the guy slightly stripped blade stop screw on the button side and the damn thing is worse now i got real good oil in it nyoil ii which typically is magic on pivots and it just further proves to me gerber is a waste of fucin money Remember when gerber was good? I don't i was born in 97

Mine opens slow and the button creeks when you push it in. I'm not impressed.
