Stokes Bay 1985

Stokes Bay BBQ around 1985. GAFIRS building was being built and Stokes Bay Pier had yet to be demolished. We were invited to attend a BBQ by the services at Marchwood before they started demolishing the remains of the old railway.

Great stuff. Very evocative. I grew up in Gosport from the late 60's through the 1970's and remember the old pier and Gilkicker well. Plus the Dolphin in Stoke's Bay and all the old buildings near the pier from WWII. One hell of a playground when you're a kid...

Swam off there too probably a couple of years before..I'm sure me and my Dad swam out to the ruins! x
