Guy, it is important for you to know that mega*bits* (lowercase b) and mega*bytes* (uppercase B) are different, since there are 8 bits in a byte, so 8 megabits = 1 megabyte. You should factor that into your comparison between internet connection speed and bytes per transaction/block.

    Excellent breakdown.
I'm not sure how many people understand that something *NOT FULLY* decentralized might as well be a database. That's why speed orientated cryptos don't have a high real world usecase "in general" .
IE. If it's not decentralized it's not secure without a 3rd party (or trustless) and thus might as we not be a blockchain, it is probably faster just being a database with a security layer.

Keep saying that about HBAR, meanwhile, they are consuming the entirety of the crypto space like a silent storm, lol.
Everything you use today likely was patented at some point in time. EVERYTHING.

To me at least, the future is quite clear. Without security you have nothing, that rules out all PoS systems. However, hybrids answer to both speed and security. Both Beam and Zcash are developing DAGs. And Dash already uses a form of DAG (LLMQs) which is how it's able to lock transactions within 2 seconds. The hybrids win because when DAGs fail they fallback to Nakamoto concensus.

Algorand is pretty decentralized today especially with governance hand-off later this year and will be even more decentralized in the future. Currently 100 relay nodes feeding 1000 participation nodes and no shards to share, so they service one chain. Increasing number of nodes is a question of when and not if. L1 smart contracts catering 95+% of applications run at network throughput but L2 smart contracts for heavier computations will run slower yes. Really good partitioning and design among other things. Their scaling from nearly 2k TPS to nearly 50k TPS will also be done using pipelining - the same technique used in modern CPU designs to increase performance. This design still leaves the opportunity to shoe-in sharding which resembles multi-core concept for CPUs, where the fastest single core CPU will very likely also be the fastest multi-core CPU given the same number of cores (shards), with efficiency in mind.

Participation nodes does voting, and relay nodes coordinates info between the participation nodes.
So participation nodes are isolated workers and relay nodes are the management. Participation nodes CANNOT communicate with each other without the help of relay nodes.
Therefore, relay nodes who really control the network, since they control the relationship between all workers.
Participation nodes are ruled by relay nodes, if relay nodes refuse to relay your information, you're out of luck.
Even if there are 1000+ total nodes, there are only 60-80 relay nodes, and NOT anyone can become a relay node. The list and identity of the relay nodes are private, i,e, only the algo team knows who they are. @@yulianinoriega8598 There are two types of nodes in Algorand: participation nodes, and relay nodes.
These selected prviliged nodes can easily fuck the 1000+ normal nodes over if they decide to work together. Not much you and I can do about it in that senario. To me that's centralisation.

not needing all nodes to confirm immediately=longer finality=fake speed. Since your account will likely only get credited after finality is reached, a 0.000001 second trasaction is still worthless if the finality is 10 min. A chain with 1000 tps and 6 sec finality is effectively the same as one with only 100tps but instant finality.
