Yes, Christianity is a religion and yes I'm a Christian but more importantly it's our relationship with him. Sin separates us from God and Jesus restores that separation. Jesus came against the religious people (Sadducees and Pharisees) who had no relationship with God. Without going into more of a deeper explanation, that's where the line stems from.
