A truly great photographer. I just bought the Iconic Photo's book, a fantastic collection of his work. The only thing wrong is the presentation of some of the images namely the double page spread which in my opinion ruins the image, I'd much rather have a smaller single page image without a crease down the middle.
Kodachrome King! I've loved his work for over 30 years. :) I'm glad to see that Steve is talking about behind the scenes on how he got each shot. the stories are just as fascinating as the pictures. Galen Rowell used to do this too.
It has to be a very interesting book. I have found this man rather interesting so his book it has to be so....
His composition is phenomenal, nay, godlike. But composition aside. What film does he use to get such stunningly sharp results? Does anyone know? Is Kodachrome really that sharp? That is TACK sharp, it is almost unbelievable how perfect his photos look. Does he edit them that way, or is it the film?
Yes, they edit film. Just like digital.
Brian it’s Kodachrome 64. Sadly this amazing film had been discontinued in production. Look for documentary called Last roll of Kodachrome. It’s about steve taking the actual last roll of Kodachrome on his own.
It's called editing. That's the trick to , GREAT composition. EVERY famous photographer is a shill. Way to many photographer's to think that clown is the only person capable of capturing the moment.

Okay well then explain how he gets such sharp PERFECT results with film? Talent? Even if you give him that, getting results like that is impossible without massive editing. Truth doesn't make someone a self righteous dick. And it doesn't mean he isn't extremely talented even if he did. But I would really really like to know what film he uses to get those results! And if they are TRULY right out of the camera or not. But he will never really say.

@Dacia project.. McCurry was in India by early 80s whereas the so called "Photoshop" was only release by 90! Where exactly is the image photoshopped? This is "photojournalism" not some other types of photography!
