- This video explains the shift in the center of buoyancy that takes place when a ship (or a vessel) heels on one side.
The difference between list and heel is explained in this video.
It also explains the theoretical concepts of transverse metacentre (M), metacentric height (GM), Righting lever (GZ), and Righting moment (RM).
This video also contain three different numerical examples to show how calculations are carried out for numerical involving the above concepts.
This is video 8 in the series of videos on ship stability. Students are advised to watch the previous videos (links below) before watching this video.

This is marvellous
I can never thank you enough

Very good teaching!
Really great explanation, Thanks.
Thanks for the kind feedback:)
Thank you 🙏 ❤
Thank you so much sir.
sir what is the rules for gz when angle of heel is 15 degree???
Sir how will KM vary with respect to displacement?
Sir,i don't understand why at capsising the gm is négative
ie: negative value?
Cause it approche to the keel ??
If this reason for negative gm
So why is negative?
Nice sir
Thankyou

SIR I HAVE A QUESTION what is the reason for using 2 formula of GZ for less and more heeling,in your last question for 20degree heel why cant we use the for GZ=gmsintheta bez we have GM and 20 degree heel ,request to plz clear my dought,,thank you
One is for smaller angles of heel and the other for larger values of heel.

thank u sir lov from Pakistan
at 11:05 you said sir that as the angle of heel increases the GZ also increases. but on the second statement it is contradictory. why? please answer. Thank you.
the gz increases with the angle of heel till a certain point after that the gz decreases when the heel angle increases
Very poor explanation...this is all written in books....what's the point of explaining
then why are your here lol
