I never took any welding classes but helped friends build NASCAR race cars during the off season. Someone can show you how to weld, but it is only by repetition that you become really good. When my daughter was in High School, she took a Shop Class instead of more traditional classes for girls. She learned a lot and gave me some of her finished samples she made for final exam. I was amazed how good she was. I left the pieces in the console of my car. Someone broke in and ransacked my car. They stole money out of console, but left daughter's welding samples. Didn't care about the money, would have been furious if they took the samples. I still have them 10 years later.
Wish there was something like this in Southern California in the Inland Empire. Im taking welding classes at a Community College but I want more hands on real world experience.
You're missing on 2 important buildings. The Block assembly and Grand Block shop where all the pieces from the prefabricated shops come into ship shape before the dry dock.
Great video. We need more people doing real work and fewer doing academic BS (and this from someone with a MS in Physics). And we need to stop exporting this kind of work. Glad to see people enjoying actually building something,.

You are right about repitition. Get better at each pass. Like very much your so fond of your daughters work pieces.

Some of my best welders are women. Less griping, no skipping steps, great attention to detail.
