🎅🎄Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! From Retro Commercial Archive!!🎄🎅

These are so special for me. The🎄Christmas🎄holidays for me were so full of joy, love, and anticipation. My family had some great experiences during Christmas but we also had some extremely rough times too. We had some painful issues. Alcoholism 🍸 was a problem we faced. Rehabilitation for example became a once a year, sometimes twice a year event. Sometimes once ever two years. I may have blocked out some bad holidays but I remember Christmas as a day where everyone came together. For a 5-10 year old kid, that was vital for me. I was an only child. My Mom had 4 kids from a previous marriage but they weren't too fond of me or my Dad. When I was little one of my sisters was really nice, and she and her husband were very awesome to me. My youth while hard at times again Christmas was always special. I remember going with my Mom to find my Dad a 🎁present.🎁 I usually got him a cologne gift set. 🎁 But I loved going out and searching for gifts for people. These commercials brought back a lot of memories. Granted my young days were in the 70's. I hit 13 in 1980. However the early 80's and mid 80's also had some great memories as well. We had a Treasure Island store, a Zayre store, Target and K-Mart were staples, and Southridge Mall was Santa's🎅🤶🧑‍🎄 place of meeting. And for us KIDS, TOYS R US! Our toy haven. From the Mego Superheroes action figures of the early 70's, Planet of the Apes figures, playsets, to Hot Wheels cars, and then AFX & TYCO! Lionel train sets! And then came ATARI! I got one for a Christmas🎄🎁present🎁, but I can't remember exactly when or what year it was? There are quite a few foggy memories that still bother me. But I strive to remember the best times. For one last example, one of these years, 1972‐74, we set out to Grandpa and Grandma's house. They moved from up north to be closer to me. I was their only Grandchild. We always had a Christmas Eve party at the Grandparents house. It always had a awesome spread of snacks. Relish trays, of Celery with assorted "toppings", carrot sticks, black olives(I loved those!) A variety of sliced 🧀cheeses.🧀 Ritz crackers with summer sausage slices and the "squeezing" canned cheese. I was a little tub, and I LOVED IT ALL! EXCEPT for the adults "delicacy"? OMG 🥴🤢🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮 Pickled herring and they'd put it on Ritz crackers. Even now just the 💨smell💨makes me GAG! 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤮 BUT the overall party was ALWAYS SPECIAL. We went later at night. The idea was since it was Christmas Eve, 🎄 🎅Santa🎅had come to Grandpa and Grandma's house early/first. So we'd go around 8 or 9pm. Unless I zonked out.....only happened once! While presents were given out, after all of the 🎁🎁presents🎁🎁 were given out, my Dad and Grandpa, while I was focused on a new toy or game, they snuck home. During this "sneak away", they set up the house with all sorts of Santa's CLUES...... Boot👣prints, since we didn't have a chimney. Sleigh tracks in the yard, that is IF there was snow, but the few times I remember this there was plenty of snow. And of course Reindeer🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🛷👣prints👣as well! Last but not least, remember the "❄SNOW❄ in a CAN?" It sprayed like canned paint or hairspray. My Dad 👨 ❤ used this ❄snow❄ paint to cake the side of the house that led to our side🚪door.🚪🪟🪟windows🪟🪟 were "painted" and little notes were added to the snow...... ❄❄SANTA❄❄WAS❄HERE❄❄❄❄WATCH❄FOR❄PRESENTS❄❄❄🦌❄REINDEER❄CROSSING❄🦌❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄ and some others that I can't exactly remember what they said at the moment. But they were Christmas related.🎄Christmas🎄themed.🎄 Oh I remember there were a couple of ✝️Cross✝️ designs, and the Christmas 🌟Star🌟. So by the time they got back I was dozing off. Pooped from munching on crackers topped with Summer Sausage and mild Cheddar 🧀Cheese🧀, and some of the Canned Squeezing cheese even. It was good, especially the flavored versions like the spicy one, cheese & 🌶🫑peppers🫑🌶 version. Oh and the one that was flavored with 🥓Bacon🥓&🥓Cheddar 🥓Cheese🥓 UMM UMMM! There were others but again, I can't remember exactly what their variants were. Again I apologize for the LONG WINDED COMMENTS, but there are few things that can hit me that hard. Things from the 70's and 80's are the biggie! If you add Christmas to those decades, then💥POW💥 that's the one that hits me hard. So many memories. So many wonderful childhood experiences, friends, family, just everything. My Grandparents helped to raise me due to my Dad's health/addiction issues. So they were a HUGE part of my life growing up. The late 90's became a another really hard time. My Mom was diagnosed with a terminal illness. I ended up taking care of them both for over ten years. My Dad did finally stop the alcohol. However after alp of that he was also diagnosed with a terminal illness, lung cancer. My Mom's passed away in December. 20 days before Christmas that year. But the year beforehand, I wanted to give her the best 🎄Christmas🎄EVER! By then she was bedridden and wasn't able to even get to the bathroom. People asked why not a home? Because for one I PROMISED her I WOULDN'T put her in a Nursing home, and #2, she cared for me for over 18 years! HOW COULD I NOT BE THERE FOR HER?!?!? She had said that she wished she had new nightgowns for her trips to the hospital, which occurred 3 to 4 times a year. Usually for 10-20 days. So I went out and I went nuts. I got her 2 weeks worth of new nightgowns. 14 of them, one for every day for 2 weeks. ➕Plus➕new 2 pairs of slippers, and if I remember correctly 2 bathrobes too. Plus a really awesome salesperson @ Kohls Department Store if I remember correctly, really helped me out with her other 🎁presents🎁, which consisted of undergarments. I also got a couple or regular pajamas just in case. To see her on 🎄Christmas🎄tearing into her 🎁🎁presents🎁🎁 brought me to 😢tears😢, and to this day when I think about it, it still makes me tear up. Seeing her smile, her happiness, was the BEST AND MOST AMAZING GIFT I EVER RECEIVED! I remember her being upset that she couldn't get me a present. She had wanted to give me a check since she wasn't able to walk. Seeing her happy again was the BEST GIFT EVER SEEN OR GIVEN TO ME! I didn't see this as just me getting her presents. This was the most special and the most beautiful thing I ever had on ✝️✝️💒🌟Christmas!🌟💒✝️✝️ It reminded me of just how wonderful it is to just GIVE! Not to worry or care about what or even if you're going to get something? To be honest, THAT NEVER CROSSED MY MIND! My only concern was, GIVE MY MOM THE BEST TIME SHE COULD HAVE. After the last gift was opened, I walked over and sat on her. Hospital 🛌Bed🛏, I sat down and she again wanted her purse, and I said, "Mom, No. Seeing you happy and smiling IS the BEST present that I have EVER received! She started crying, so did I, and I hugged her and hugged her! I'm starting to tear up now as I type this, 20+ years later. This day has meant so much to me. But NONE of them compare to the one I spent with my Mom. Our last ❄✝️💒🌟Christmas🌟✝️💒❄🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🦌🛷🎅🎄🏡🎄🎁🎁🎁 The last one I had with my Mom. I really miss her. She was an extremely special lady. She worked harder than ANYONE I've ever seen. Yes there were issues. Things done, things said, some nasty things said, hurtful at times, but 99.99% was because of the disease/addiction. However NO MATTER WHAT MY MOM WAS STILL MY MOM. AND MY DAD WAS STILL MY DAD. Alcoholism was and IS a devastating problem that affects EVERYONE in the family! But through it all I have some precious memories, moments in time! These are why I have such a connection with these commercials, the holiday commercials, and especially the Christmas commercials! So once again, THANK YOU AND God Bless you as well. A late Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to you and your family! Be safe, stay healthy, and ALWAYS REMEMBER ❤ TO SAY THAT YOU LOVE SOMEONE! ❤

CJOH & Rideau Centre - CJOH is the Ottawa, Ontario, Canada CTV affiliate. It's where "You Can't Do That on Television" (YCDTOTV), "The Galloping Gourmet', and "The Amazing Kreskin" were produced. Les Lye, of "YCDTOTV", was one of the CJOH announcers, and did another kids' show there too: "Uncle Willy and Floyd".

You definitely got a subscriber here! I just found you in my recommendations. Odd since I've loved Retro commercials, retro video gaming, older shows, movies and sports games. But I'm here and these videos are all just amazing memories of my childhood, my teenage years, my youth, and I really miss those days now. Thank you for giving me a small piece back! Merry🎄Christmas🎄🎁🎅🤶, a little late, sorry. God Bless and again, thank you.
