So I was going to watch Multiverse of madness and this UBER driver was listening to this song. After talking with him for a while I found out he was also a guitarist and drives his friends father’s car for some extra money. The car was old and it was not having music player with Bluetooth and that driver literally had a pendrive inserted with these GOLD songs. The whole journey became a bliss 😇
I've been listening to this masterpiece since the time it got released. But I was not able to comprehend what the song actually meant or wanted to convey. Yesterday something happened and it clicked in my mind what the possible explanation of this song could be. I don't know if it's the correct interpretation or not. But that's the beauty of poetry. Everyone is free to comprehend a prose in whichever way he or she wants. 'Zakir' means to remember someone. 'Zahir' is to make it obvious/confess 'Akil' means to know/ vaaqif hona/ self-aware. 'Asim' means to protect or relieve the pain. "Zakir kare vo, Zahir nahi..." So, what I interpret from these lines is that in those Khaalid (everlasting) nights, he's remembering someone/something (zakir) but he's not able to confess his feelings (Zahir). "Akil hu mai, Asim nahi" He's aware of the helpless state in which he is. He's aware that sham and subah (signifying the two very similar but opposite lovers/things) will never be able to meet each other because they're separated by a Khalid(not ending) night. Despite all this self awareness, he's not able to find his Asim-saviour/relief. He's trying to fing his saviour from within. The other interpretation I get from this line is that he's looking for his lover to come as his saviour as both of them are remembering each other in those lonely nights but none of them is making it obvious. So, he needs a saviour to confess his feelings for him.
Akshat's guitar licks, Garry's drums, Aashish's basslines, And sahil's beautiful songwriting+singing is a total blessing to this country and to this world. I don't even remember what my life was like before I discovered naalayak the band.
