    Maybe i missed it, but is there a way to open the hatch and/or tailgate from the inside whilst all hatches and tailgate closed? Mostly for pest prevention, excess moisture exposeure to interior, and winter camping.

      Right? I just found GFC and found them (like everyone else) cool as fuck! Then I learned that there's actually a "waitlist"... blew my fucking mind, but I guess too many people want them and they're swamped. Hope they NEVER source out to another country in order to get them made quicker.

    That is an awesome build! I'm currently finishing up my overland build on a Ford Expedition. I'll be full-timing it on the trails so a clever rooftop tent design was key. I just wasn't happy with what's available with the wedge tents, so I also designed my own. I haven't executed the build yet, and it will be Summer 2021 before I get to build it. In the meantime, I have a sleeping platform in the rear passenger/cargo area with a slide-out kitchen that I built myself. I am finally ready to start editing the entire build footage and will start getting some videos out in the near future. I transformed my "grocery getter" into a very capable overlanding rig.

  • @rickfromvirginia
    @rickfromvirginia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great video! Excellent narration! I have watched your other videos using camper and what makes it so cool is how you customized it to what you wanted. Plus you gained the added knowledge of being able to fix it yourself if something breaks because you built it! Your video is an excellent walk through on how and why you made certain modifications. Can't ask for anything else! Thanks for sharing and taking the time to make and edit the video!

    What would the downfall be of running 1.5”x3” extrusions for the bottom frame instead of the 1.5”x4.5”. The 1.5”x4.5” is at like $2.60 a inch right now.

    Super professional…. Well done lad. I am in the process of building my own wedge tent for my fj. I like how you ran the tent canvas through the tube rails. I will use that method as well. How did you seal canvas at the corners?

    I'm curious as to why you wouldn't build a full pop-up, given the cost and weight are a minimal increase and you get so much more space when camping... especially in bad weather.

    Ripcord Great build! I jist want to do mine. My main concern is the overall high. I have a 3rd Gen TDR Sport 4x4, no suspension mods and not planning to do so, for now. What's the high from the main cab to the top of the tent?

  • @john_bear
    @john_bear 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thank you for the video. I feel empowered to start my own build. But how many hours do you think you have invested into building it?

  • @jimyeats
    @jimyeats 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice job, really awesome layout. I think you immediately illustrate in your opening statements why small wedge camper builders charge so much for them. It took you 6 months and 3,000 dollars to build your more perfected model (and the first one). That 3k doesn't include your time either. So when you have a small camper builder putting out a fairly minimal amount each year they have to charge a lot to make the effort and time worthwhile since it's a low volume item. Again, really nice work.

    • @RipcordHQ
      @RipcordHQ  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    @seanpazey1504 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m having a hard time finding the aluminum extrusion in 4.5 inch width long enough for the base of the tent frame. What are your thoughts on going with 3 inch for top and bottom of the frame?

  • @ReduxGarage
    @ReduxGarage 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    What I can’t figure out is how there is no water infiltration between the keder rail and the extruded aluminum. Is it just because of the little skirt that hangs over the extruded aluminum when it is up? …and that skirt is tucked in when closed
    And how do you deal with the corners where the keder rail doesn’t go around the corner in one continuous piece?

    Killer design, I love the balance of thrift and style and hardcore engineering. I hope to extend this build style into a four wheel camper clone using 80/20. This video is great inspiration. I’m a big fan of the idea that if you have built it, you’re in a good position to maintain it long term. It’s great to not be at the mercy of a manufacturer.
