- Annette is a 2021 musical romantic drama film directed by Leos Carax (in his English-language debut), and with a screenplay by Ron Mael and Russell Mael of Sparks, and Carax, from an original story, music and songs by the band. The plot follows a stand-up comedian (Adam Driver) and his opera singer wife (Marion Cotillard) and how their lives are changed when they have their first child; Simon Helberg and Devyn McDowell also star.

This is the best scene of the movie and the best movie scene I've seen all year. I love the music, Simon's voice, and acting, the writing. The blatant exposition in this fantastic way is genius. Excuse me a minute.

This is somehow the most natural *and* the most stylized scene in the movie, and it works so beautifully. Simon's cadence is perfect, but it doesn't sound like a recital, ya know?
This scene will be studied by film students for the rest of the history of the human species. It’s perfect.

2:20 Oh, man, the pain in his eyes, his voice, his movements and the music!! This was by far the best scene in this movie.
To go from Big Bang Theory to this is amazing
I'm glad he escaped typecasting, that show could have ruined his career like it tanked Johnny Galecki's.
To sum it up, single shot, live music capture. Masterpiece.
I hope he was nominated and won every hot shot film award for best supporting actor . This screen captures every note every scale every wave of his broken still beating heart as the conductor.

There's that Bob Fosse quote about musicals, where "The time to sing is when your emotional level is too high to speak, and the time to dance is when your emotions are too strong to only sing".
I think it's so smart how they made that fit with a conductor.
I didn’t care much for the movie but this scene is truly remarkable. Every single detail of this scene is just outstanding.

yes, I agree wit you, it is highly frustrating that the official soundtrack of Annette in spotify doesn't include this scene which, to me, is the most fascinating scene of the movie. And what gorgeous music too!

@Rose Victoria Unfortunately, this part is not included in the CD of the soundtrack (at least the one available in France now in May 2022 - sorry, I am "old school" and still buy CDs)... I really do not understand why because as everybody says here, that scene and its music are one of the most remarkable in the movie (maybe a copyright issue?).
@@lindaberger9604 There are 2 versions of the soundtrack. The cannes edition which has 15 tracks on it. And the unlimited edition which has 63 tracks on it, including the conductor, a couple of demos, and some that were cut from the film.

lmaoo i like watching it but some of the stuff is annoying af but he’s such a good actor
His conducting is behind the beat, which is completely distracting me! I wish he'd been coached in that a bit more, it would have made the scene really incredible. It's like watching the audio lagging behind the video by 2 seconds. Conductors stay ahead of the beat for the musicians' sake. Bummer. So close.
