Hi dude was just wondering if you can give me some advice I'm wanting to do some solar panels on my campervan to keep the leisure battery topped up Thanks Neil
I thought the idea of the split charge relay was to charge the leisure battery and cut out when the vehicle battery hits a certain voltage? How is your vehicle battery going flat?
My MR2 Spyder carries plenty of mods adopted from your channel. I just wish you had your VW T5 about 5 years ago. As it would have prevented me from getting a Mercedes Vito. Which also carries similar mods adopted from your Transporter. I can't thank you enough for your videos.
Hi mate I have same fridge but with no solar and a 110 gel battery which is snookered now I'm going to replace battery and put a panel in could you recommend a panel batt and sar charger only realy whant to run fridge lights and phone charging its a total mine field the solar loads of options
Will be interested to see how this goes as I have the same issue with the starter battery on my Sprinter as its a weekend and holiday campervan. I was going to add a Dual VSR Split Charger to the system so the 200W panel could also charge the starter battery, but this may be a good alternative.
I think of the starter battery is going flat there could be another issue? Like a parasitic drain? They should sit quite happily for weeks as long as the battery is healthy
I've been using dc to d.c charger also but it rums waeco fridge 24/7 no problem but off separate 90 amp leisure battery .was already 2 batteries on my t4 .i would like to add larger solar panel like you as we stay off grid usually 2 days each spot then engine tops leisure battery up .my charger off eBay .
Oh dear I feel dizzy already, I did not understand all of it.. I shall live it to my hubby.. My job when we do campervaning just read map and must probably lost d route.
Yeah 😬 I’d have to cut it off. I didn’t really plan ahead. I am planning to make brackets to fix it to the cross bars when I get another panel though. And bolt the 2 panels together
Hi SpyderLee, do you think the ring unit is overkill now that you fitted the new part to the system or would you do it differently if you went at it again? Thanks pal. D
Mate. Where you have fitted your hook up I’d brilliant idea , how did you do it ?. Very clever love your van , as you can see from my pic this is mine but I just don’t have your skills 🙈. Thanks Dell
Hiya. I just took off the trim and cut off all the clips and hooks that hold it on. I glued on some hinges and a catch. I think gluing on strong magnets might have been better though as it’s a bit rickety 👍
I don’t use it. It was easier to leave it in than take it out. It’s air con and heat. The actuator and controls are broken. I cannot change between hot and cold. But I have set it to cold and can turn it in from the dash so if I need the rear cooling down in summer it can be used if I want. But never have.
@@SpyderLEE didnt realise it was a/c aswell! Although it sounds lime more hastle than its worth. Still looking for a van myself, just a bit put off with the high millage some of them are on!
@@SpyderLEE Yeah ive heard the boxes and all are typical VW, had similar problems with my old lupo! I suppose in some ways your better off going for the cheapest one you can because you could end up doing the same work to a lowwer millage more expensive van!
Hey buddy. Can i ask you how many miles were on your t5 when you brought it. You have mentioned several times you bought the " crappiest high mileage van" you could find. Reason being i am looking at a 2.5tdi with 104k on the clock fsh. Is this high in your opinion. Rhys
I had some angled brackets bolted to the panels and the stuck the brackets to the roof using tiger seal. Now I have it different. I have a roof rack and the panels bolted to the roof rack.
Where do you park up? I want to build a camper van like this, maybe make a nice video series out of it but I'm really not sure where to park it when I'd go camping! Car parks, layby etc?
You and Greg virgoe should collaborate to build a campervan conversion.. As a business. Coz you're very good at it like professional.. Now where should I find you.. Hehe
Best man.... thanks for showing!!! I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!! Could you show me how you designed and fixed the "door" in the back where your plug-in is hidden. The one you show at minute 8:12. I need to have one of these for my gas-tank... and I hab the same idea but no clue how to do it. if you don't want to make a video about this, you could maybe send me some detailed pic via Inst. dk_photography_hd This would be absolutely outstanding!!!!
Why don’t you just run the van for an hour per month, voltronic do a 3.5amp charging system that charges the main battery from the solar 💡 load , just fuse it both end 5amp rocking horse sh£t to get hold of though.
Hiya mate another great video, can I ask what make your bike rack is? I have a spoiler just like you and I am struggling to find a bike rack. Did you have to modify it to fit or is a straight factory fit?
Links in the description for the equipment I have. 👍
Are you able to provide a wiring diagram at all? Even a rough draft?

Good review, interested to know why the main battery is running down after 10 days as mine takes over 5 weeks of no use before i have an issue....
Top vid - was hoping to see another video on this sick sick van since I first watched your original one.
I’ll do more, as I can.. hopefully doing some on others too, got mates with bad ass slammed vans on air 😁

That’s really nice!
Mr Lee you said solar panel with current fixing ,how will you remove it,to turn it round, good vid cheers.
Yeah 😬 I’d have to cut it off. I didn’t really plan ahead. I am planning to make brackets to fix it to the cross bars when I get another panel though. And bolt the 2 panels together
Just nut and bolt through the roof , get a strip of rubber between the bracket and roof , job done ,

we always camp off grid thats an expensive battery monitor.i just use led an check battery sometimes
Another tidy video! Quick question, looks like the rear heating matrix at 7:50. Do you ever use it? If you do is any good?
I don’t use it. It was easier to leave it in than take it out. It’s air con and heat. The actuator and controls are broken. I cannot change between hot and cold. Yeah mines done 220k. Engines are good for 5 times that. Drive gear not so much lol. I’ve fitted new gearbox, driveshafts, clutch, dmf

Looks great Lee one a build one GIZ some help ha
Lol, if your questions have short answers... I seem to have no spare time nowadays 😬

Rhys Holley mine had just over 200k on it. It’s done 223k now
How did you mount your panel?
I had some angled brackets bolted to the panels and the stuck the brackets to the roof using tiger seal. Now I have it different. I have a roof rack and the panels bolted to the roof rack.

I just have a look around on google maps when I get to where I’m going. Find a quiet lay-by or carpark somewhere
This may have already been asked but how much has it cost to convert to this setup ( excluding the cost of the actual van)? Thanks and awesome job👍
You and Greg virgoe should collaborate to build a campervan conversion.. As a business. Coz you're very good at it like professional.. Now where should I find you.. Hehe
How about an additional battery for the security/radio etc. Would that work?
I reckon it should be sorted now. I’ll check it this weekend. I’ve not used the van all week.
awesome van;i will be over next year around this time.Wanna sell it?
Hilarious and informative!
Cheers for the coffee dude 👍
