    Can I add 1n4148 diode in high trigger level circuit which u made ?

    Thanks this circuit is simple and solid!!! Works!! I used an infrared led and a phototransistor as the optocoupler and a 2N2222 transistor, I was able to switch the isolated relay using an Arduino.

    Your videos are awesome. Really helps newbies. You explain the concepts on paper. Then you do two iterations, one on the breadboard and then on the perfboard with all the pin details. That really helps. And no irritating background music. Subscribed!

    I have to say, I saw many video's explaining this, this is one of the best (no resistor between signal and led?)

    Thank you for this!!! I've been looking for a stupid simple solution to drive my 5v relay with a 3v output from my ESP32 and didn't want to create an entire step up voltage circuit. So I paired this with a logic level converter and am not able to drive all my relays reliably!!

    I have an essential question, once we use ULN2803, can we do without the free-running diode for the relay?
    thank.

    • @EEWave
      @EEWave  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This IC has common freewheeling diode so we don't need to use.

  • @SteveRaynerMakes

    The question I have is how do you obtain the second power supply? ie do you use a transformer and a rectifier, or a dc-dc converter? In your example, you are isolating a 5v power supply from a 5v power supply. There doesn't seem much point, but I suspect there are safety benefits, maybe protecting the microcontroller from potential high reverse voltage from the relay coils. The main isolation from the mains power supply is provided by the relay itself, but you don't really talk about that.

    Could it be possible to use MOSFET transistor or BJT transistor instead of Optocoupler ?

    • @EEWave
      @EEWave  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We can do it without optocoupler. But, to electrically isolate the low voltage circuit from the high voltage circuit, we have to use optocoupler and a different power supply to operate the relays.

    • @greggil3454
      @greggil3454 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EEWave Yes U are correct, but I think it is also possible to use PNP and NPM transistor working together witch simply PNP is on high voltage site and NPN on microcontroller site ,but they are not completely isolated though. Your solution is definitely one to use in production circuit . Well done !

    And I want to use +ve volt for ( optocoupler) signal so what can I do for it.

    Hi, good video. Very informative, but I have a question regarding bc337 transistor component in the circuit. I don't understand, why we need it in the secondary circuit, and what will happen if I remove it, will the circuit still work? I am assuming it is used to isolate 5v and emitter pin of optocoupler.

    • @SteveRaynerMakes
      @SteveRaynerMakes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My understanding is that the optocoupler cannot handle the amount of current required to drive the relay coil. Therefore the transistor is used as a current amplifier.

    3:00 why can't the ground be same?

    • @EEWave
      @EEWave  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isolation means there should not be any kind of electrical connection between input side and output side. If we use same ground or single power supply to powering the microcontroller and to powering the relay, then there will not be any meaning of using the optocoupler.

    • @luie.no1noob
      @luie.no1noob 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EEWave I understood you want to completely isolate the relay module, but if I make the ground common will it cause any damage to the circuit?

    • @EEWave
      @EEWave  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No damage. You can use this as a simple relay board. If you want to make HIGH triggered relay board, then please watch this video:
