Athletes know they train hard... workouts, nutrition, psychology and more. But for us spectators, we usually don't see any of that training stuff. Any tournament or match, for us spectators can often appear as random as a bunch of marbles moving around a field, or down a track. I think that's why it's so easy to give humanity to these marbles. For a spectator, there really isn't much difference between the marbles and a group of live athletes.
This contribution to the world's happiness needs to be recognised on an international basis. The races and events are outstanding, exciting, comforting, interesting... And despite what the commentator says here; despite there being nominally random outcomes; in fact the storyline of characters and talents is borne out by a quasi-human spread of results. We are really shocked when the Savage Speeders have a bad season, we can appreciate the pathos of the injuries, the grit shown by marbles who improve from a low base through their efforts. As someone who played with marbles in just this way as a child - and of course made my own commentaries - I am absolutely delighted to see what Jelle, Dion and their collaborators are doing: this is truly the very best use of the capabilities which Internet has given us. Thank you to the Bakkers, and I do hope some significant international prize will come their way soon.
