- This is part 1 of 3 of my 2 night wild camp on Dartmoor.
I start from Okehampton and head along the Granite way to Meldon viaduct and Meldon Reservoir where I pitch up for the evening. I have stunning views looking over the Devon countryside and looking down onto rhe Reservoir. It was a great sunset that evening I even managed to get a bit of a timelapse.

you really need to sort yr carry weight out mate..that is WAY WAY too much, you can yrself a serious injury or heart attack doing that, nothing you should be doing with a kid on the way...ATB WJ

camera is so smooth :) those trains almost looked like a model train set haha

Why on earth do u carry so much all the time my winter camp bag only weighs about 16kg u need to lighten your load buddy
I definitely won't be carrying all that again but you will see on my cooking videos what contributed to the weight 😁👍

Thanks Dan really appreciated mate I did reach my limits in fact I passed them. Yeah iys a shame we didn't manage a camp but we have all been busy with family stuff. I watched your family kayak video looked like you all had fun and yes we will definitely meet up for a camp but for me it won't be until afyer Christmas now😁👍

"Hello, my fellow explorers" Is this the new catchphrase? Wow, that pack looks massive :-) I heard that you'll be able to book a ticket from Oakhampton to St David's Exeter by the end of 2021. This will make a massive difference I'd say. That dam looks pretty impressive! When are we going to see the kayak ;-) Great video Carl!
yeah was thinking about saying that from now on and yes there will be a proper service starting soon to Okehampton. Hopefully I will be out on the kayak over the weekend im just waiting to see what the weather will be like its not looking promising at the moment 😁👍
Carl that pack is nearly as heavy as I am 🤣🤣🤣 I'm amazed at you for carrying it that far. Great filming though, the investment in your new camera has paid off. Waiting for part 2 now buddy 👍👍👍

Well, you certainly tested yourself there Carl and found the limit of your kits capabilities and your own physical capacity and from the photography I can see you made the best of it. Am sure you are well fed at least.... no doubt part two or three will make us all amazed at your "absolutely stunning" culinary delights! Cheers.

I don't usually comment but here I felt I had to.
Like a few others here I'd like to see what is in your pack. That pack looks way too heavy and could cause you injury esp if you should happen to lose your footing.
Im sure many peeps here are dying to help you out with advice and even with some lighter spare equipment some of us might have.
Anyway you do great vids and are continually improving the content and editing.
Hope to see you out and about in the spring and best of luck with the new arrival in October.

Nice job on the video mate I like the shots with the new toy when you flick from one side to another. Ignore the twats comments re weight of bag, at the end of the day it's you carrying it and if you are able to do it then that's that.nwver understand those people it's not like they are being asked to lift it ! Won't see me able to carry that weight anymore, I have to max out at 20kg tops these days lol

As for the bag I completely agree with everyone I won't be carrying that weight again ever I didn't enjoy the hike because of it and we all go out ro enjoy the hike. Good one Carl. I done that walk the other day but in the opposite direction. I'd seriously look into reducing your pack weight. At 70lb+, all you need is one slip and you'll break your ankle.

I've said this before..... Do a gear load out video will you!!! I wanna see everything you take. EVERYTHING!!!! Over 35kg?? How is it possible for one night?

Hi Carl, great to see you're out there, am seriously worried about the weight you carry - In the end if you're not careful you'll do your knees in - then as you get older you won't manage to get out there at all - Time for a re-think my friend - Back in the late 60s I used to carry up to 20kgm; which was more than enough - bear in mind tents were canvas then and had wooden poles - then as time has gone by I've lowered it more and more - I'm now sometimes as low as 8.5 kgm on a one nighter and always under 10 kgm, even on a two nighter - We wanna see you out there long into the future - look after those knees ... cheers mike
Thanks Mike its great to be up there. As for the pack believe me I will not be carrying that again it was way to heavy I didn't enjoy the hike because of it but wait to see my two cooking videos and im just glad that tents are a lot lighter now😁👍
@@Intotheoutdoors69 Great news - - - I think by the tme I was 50 ish I was down to 15kgm or less then in the last 20 years its slowly reduced to 10kgm - I had 11kgm and Carol 10kgm inc water when we did the Cho La - a pass in Nepal, aged 53 I think -

When I cycled around Dartmoor a few years back I got a banging drone shot over that bridge just before Meldon dam. Awesome!

Those Bergens are great but the thing is the weight don't sit on the hips try a pack that wraps around the iliac crest.

@@Intotheoutdoors69 that bag will go around the hips, the one you use was designed if you wore a belt kit with pouches. if you do buy make sure you purchase the correct size.
Awesome job...video format was real step up... i was down meldon thursday for a recce.. never saw the view from the viaduct,,just the dam..
