During season 1, when Yuji first meets the second year squad, Maki mentions Yuta is away on some business outside the country, which is the post credits scene here in the movie where he's having lunch with Miguel. That's why he's not seen during the entire season.
There are also a lot of other nods to season 1:
-The Night Parade of a Hundred Demons is referenced when they first introduce Todo, when they mention he went nuts during it and excorcised a bunch of curses.
-The scene with Nanami fighting is actually showcasing how he got the best record of four Black Flashes in a row, which he mentions in season 1 when they first introduce Black Flash.
-The three section staff Geto uses here is Playful Cloud, the same three section staff Maki and Megumi use against Hanami during the tournament between the schools.
And it also explains why Maki hates using that Staff because it belonged to Geto who insulted and beat her in this Movie.
Also, Todo repeatedly complains about "Okkotsu" (Yuta) not participating in season 1's exchange event

The reason why Inumaki can't use words that lead to instant death for his opponents is because the stronger his opponent is the more damage he causes to himself too, and in the worst case the word could "bounce" right back at him and kill him.

Oh yeah and watching this movie right after season 2, some things hit different
So yes. JJK 0 was originally a small oneshot series. Yuta was the original protag. We now know why Maki was so disgusted with that special weapon she had in S1(it was actually Geto's). We know now that there are only four sorcerers currently granted the title of special grade. Gojo, Geto, Yuta, and an unknown fourth member. As powerful as Inumaki, Panda and Maki are, they were still outclassed in both hand to hand combat and power because Geto is simply far above them. And it makes sense. Geto survived a black flash from Yuta and a full blast from Rika with Yuta putting his life on the line. While Sukuna is called is called the King Of Curses, Rika is called the Queen Of Curses. Had Gojo not been there, Geto confirmed he would've just tried again. Even after everything, Gojo still considered Geto to be his best friend. His one and only. So what did Gojo say to Geto in the end? Well, we don't know. What we do know is that they were about 3 words. They were enough to make Geto smile and blush(in the manga) and that they were words the two of them had never exchanged before. So it was presumably very sweet.
you are correct all except the weapon, the weapon wasn't Geto's the weapon was Toji's, Geto got Toji's stash of weapons when he died, Geto took the curse.

Sean is correct. Yuta was the prototype for Yuji.
A couple of things:
1.) Yuta has been introduced to us before as one of the most talented students at Jujutsu High. Gojo talks about him and another unnamed student in the episode where Yuji's "dead' body is in Shoko's coroners office. Todo also mentions Yuta when he requests the Tokyo students to bring him to the intra-school competition. They also mention that the previous year, Yuta was the only one to play in the competition against Kyoto which resulted in an overwhelming win for Tokyo (makes sense now haha).
2.) The Night Parade of 100 Demons is also talked about in relation to Todo when he first meets and fights Megumi. We see a picture of Todo sitting on top of a bunch of curses that he has defeated.
3.) The Nanami black flash record that Nanami talks about is shown in the sequence in the movie where he fights the curses that keep killing his own students. We see him hit the exact number of that record.
4.) The post-credits scene shows Yuta with Miguel in Africa. Gojo arriving is literally the "business trip" that he took which causes him to get late to meeting the Kyoto students and for the "Yuji unboxing". So while Yuji and all the first-years enter the Tokyo school and have their story unfold, Yuta is already in Africa going through supposed training missions with Miguel.
5.) This makes the following people ranked as special grades that we have seen so far: Sukuna, Gojo, Yuta, and Geto.
Sukuna's fragments of his soul are special grade cursed objects. He himself isn't classified as a special grade sorcerer, or even a sorcerer at all. He's a curse user as to be a jujutsu sorcerer you need to be part of or graduate from Jujutsu High and be in good standing with the higher ups.

@Saneliso-zj3ki sorcerers are trained by Jujutsu Tech and employed by the Japanese government to exercise cursed spirits. Curse users use their jujutsu for evil and malicious deeds like murder.

Why was Geto deemed a curse user after killing that village of people? To be a sorcerer, as a title, you need to use your cursed technique for protecting humans by exercising cursed spirits.

@Saneliso-zj3ki lol brother, I know sukuna is probably beyond special grade. I just like pointing out that the grading system and who get deemed special grade is solely on the higher ups. Principal Yaga was under review to be classified special grade when Shibuya happened. The whole sorcerer and curse user terms were created to tell who was good and evil. It's funny that Gege created that difference and hasn't used it in years.
i cant stress enough how HYPED i am for yall to start season 2 because thats when we get to see how and why geto and gojo were best friends. geto was literally the only person that understood and saw gojo and vice versa
Whats so cool about this movie is that its all stuff we heard about in season 1. Nanami setting the black flash record, Todo beating the special grade curse single handedly; we got to SEE it.

The most interesting part is that none of those scenes were in the original manga one-shot, because JJK didn't exist yet. They were added by the animators to increase continuity (since the movie was animated after the main JJK manga and anime started releasing and we got all those mentions), and it was one of the best decisions ever made
This takes place a year before season 1 i believe. Maki, toge, and panda are 1st years. Gojo is 27.

Yes, Geto is very Magneto-esque. He would rather not kill any sorcerers, but he knows he's up against Jujutsu Tech and they will try to stop him. And what Gojo said to Geto is what he said to Yuta when he asked who returned his ID. "You were my best friend... The only one I've ever had."

@minwon_enthusiast6273 that's what the main theory is, as it's assumed it was heartfelt regarding Geto's response saying he could at least curse him instead. I believe it would be something along the lines of a response to when Geto said "trust. I didnt think i had any of that left." And for last words, despite them falling out, letting him know he was his best friend lines up really well.

Yuta is my favorite character in the show. He's good and devastating with little words. We love our Jollof General!
Rikas character page kinda hints that she was fucked up before she even died. And her grandmother suspected she mightve had something to do w the death of her parents
Nah, both her parents got killed by curses, her grandma was just fucked up in the head from trauma and blamed her granddaughter due to the unexplainable deaths.
Remember, curses don't leave evidence that most humans can ever find, and what little can be found won't lead to any conclusions as the wider world doesn't know about curses. Her mother died after she "fell mysteriously ill, and no hospital or doctor could find out why." If she was poisoned by a 11 year old they would have found out immediately.
An illness based cursed likely latched itself onto her mother and killed her. Gege also confirmed Rika is not a sorcerer *at all* so her using curses to remove proof is out of the question.
Her father vanished without a trace in the woods while Rika and him were out camping after her mother died, his body was never found, ergo he was likely completely eaten. It's utterly inconceivable for an 11 year old girl to have enough strength to kill a fully grown man by herself and not leave a single trace of struggle, bloodshed, murder weapon, motive, or a corpse for them to find. It's also highly plausible that Curse Users killed her parents, as they also do not typically leave any trace that humans could perceive and regularly gladly killed for sport.

I went to go see this in theaters actually! I made my brother who had no idea about jjk or the plot come along. I managed to get him to start watching anime with me last year and we eventually caught up to season 2 when it was still releasing weekly

Geto kinda reminds me of Voldemort at time with how much he hates non sorcerers or people who lack cursed energy. Morgan's HP comparison earlier on in S1 was spot on.

I know you guys already started season 2, so just two phrases to describe what Geto and Gojo meant to each other “He is half of my soul, as the poets say.” And “We were like gods at the dawning of the world, & our joy was so bright we could see nothing else but the other.”
Another quote about Gojo and Geto that is both relevant in this movie and season 2 "I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell, I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world.”
They were in love, they separated my parents. Gege is going to fall.
You gotta remember how cursed energy works to make sense of what happened to Rika. All curses are born from Cursed Energy which normally gets manifested due to collective negative emotion that gets leaked from non-sorcerers. That's why in JJK universe there's a lot curses being borned in schools, hospitals, offices and stuff like that. Take the curses from S1 as an example, one is borned from the fear of nature, another one from the fear of Volcanoes, fire and stuff like that, etc.
Being unable to control your CE being a sorcerer can lead to unexpected and unwanted results, such as Yuta cursing Rika, not wanting to let her go and manifesting it through words turned Rika into a curse due to a leak of his uncontrollable CE. That's also why Miguel says he will curse Geto if Gojo kills him, he's being literal. When Gojo says his last words to Geto he also responds to him "c'mon, at least hit with some curses". There's a lot of conditions regarding CE, some people find it confusing but I think the show does a good job of explaining it many times in dialogue as well as visually, you just gotta pay attention
Im sure it was mentioned over on Patreon, but Yuta was mentioned a couple of times in season 1 (around the beginning of the exchange event) - though without any context of who he is, it's super easy to have overlooked it.

1) In ep 6 Gojo said 2nd Year Okkotsu and 3rd Year Hakari will some day will be on the same par as Him.
2) In 2nd Year Intro, Megumi Said That 2nd Year Senpai(senior) is the only one he respect the most .
3)When Kyoto School Arrive in Tokyo School, Nobara Asked Panda why they won the last exchange event, but there Maki said They didn't even go do kyoto school.
It was Yuta alone who defeated the whole Kyoto School (that include Grade 1 Sorcerer Aoi Todo and Mechamaru).
5) When Gojo was talking Principal, Gojo said they has some quality sorcerer like Yuta ,Todo etc ....
Those Lines Alone would have given You The Idea of How Strong and Powerful Yuta Okkotsu Was in Season 1 Itself...
@@hazardEXE27 Yuta didn't win his exchange even alone, he was the only first year to participate, Maki said it was to even out the numbers. It's not like he by himself took out Todo and Mechamaru and everyone else. The current time 3rd years and the graduating class of that year participated too.

@@Mihawk-Hawk-eye there's series where that doesn't happen, and I'd much prefer Yuji to stay under Gojo and Hakari, I think brute strength doesn't have the potential to surpass the ability to manipulate space on a molecular level, and if it does in jjk it's gonna seem like an asspull unless Yuji gains some awesome cursed technique and I wouldn't want that either because the whole point of Yuji being made the way he was is that he doesn't have a CT.
Also I really want Sukuna to get killed and if it turns out Yuji has to die for that then I'm on board.

@@SeanTanktop Not really all her family, just her father maybe bc she and him went missing while hiking together but only she survived, but her mother had died very early on in her life, and her grandma was still alive when she died from the car crash. She did steal the ring tho, it was her mom's wedding ring and she stole it from her grandma's room. Also this person is choosing to believe her father abused her, there's nothing concrete, her character page just says she dislikes adult men and that she's aware that she's considered pretty so she uses her looks to manipulate grown ups.
