    Beautiful movie but one major critique: Christ is not mentioned. Cabrini was not a social worker, she was a woman of God, and that is why she was able to do the things she did, not just out of sheer force. Not once, except for a brief prayer at a meal, did it show her praying. Prayer would have been what sustained her. This is a great secular movie. This is not a Catholic or Christian movie.

      I didn’t want to dissuade anyone from seeing movies about saints, but that was a disappointment. It was released on a Socialist day of women, which is a politically loaded day. Why not the weekend of Easter, as her day is the 31st.

      Went to Mother Cabrini High School in Manhattan, overlooking the Palisades. Everything about our school was unique and different. Got a fabulous education, made lifelong friends, and her spirit imbued the whole culture and atmosphere of the school. She is buried there, in her shrine. Her life work speaks for itself. Her orphanages, schools, hospitals also speak for her. If they had made this into a Catholic saint movie, then viewership would have been much narrower. It is more than obvious that prayer, as a nun, would have had to be at the center of her life. God inspired her, sustained her, and allowed her unique mission to continue to this day. She fought Rome, the officials of NYC, and prejudice. She won every battle. A little nun from Italy. Now, that’s a miracle.

      How very clever that scene is where she is trying to raise money from the men around the table. The reflection on the table is genius. A wonderful experience.

      But she did say to the sisters, “We can do anything in His strength.” She definitely meant Jesus there. Also, it looked like she was holding either a prayer book or a Bible as she was standing at the porthole of the ship.

    We need a move about Mother Angelica.. and I am so glad that Mother Cabrini has this movie.. I am so excited to see it on March 8th!!! She is a wonderful role model to help others BUT it is not just handouts.. it is helping others to help themselves.

    I am surprised Raymond did not compare the new movie to EWTN's great production some years ago. According to one article, the new version is like a political campaign add, full of victims and pity and "toxic outrage", not really showing the real, loving saint, but rather a life full of tension. There is more to love in the EWTN version, available on EWTN and on You Tube.

    • @MrShady-dz5ew

      I agree. The EWTN version seems to be much better. From the conversation on the boat to the streets of the city.

      The EWTN verson was fantastic.. but, I am really excited to see this version on the large screen.. Why be critical.. the more about St. Frances Cabrini the BETTER.!!!

    You can make a movie about her spiritual life, or you can make a movie about what she accomplished. What she accomplished is far more impressive in a commercial sense, really miraculous, and her spiritual commitment speaks for itself. She was a Catholic nun! She started her own order! Rosary beads and masses were part of her life. That doesn’t need to be shown to be understood.

    I agree, this was not a Catholic movie. This was a feminist story opening on international women’s day. The movie told of all the achievements of Mother Cabrini, but did not state that Christ was the driving force behind all her work. The movie made it seem as though she had done these accomplishments on her own. I think if anyone were to ask Mother Cabrini about her many achievements, she would have said, it was Christ, who did all these things, I was just His instrument. The movie made her look like an empowered, Disney princess. When in fact, she was a holy nun. who believed that she could do all things in Christ, who strengthen her.

    Finally, a segment of the way EWTN used to be! Praise God. I hope programming, interviews like this continue over the nonsense and ripping apart of people of differently political parties etc.

    The film's director Alejandro Monteverde and writer Rod Barr done a fantastic job of illuminating Saint Cabriini's life and difficulties. Magnificently hinting at the invisible hand of God directing her life. She represented the three theological virtues of faith, hope, and charity in the movie. Throughout the movie, the director shows us flashbacks of Cabrini drowning as a young child in the water. She finds herself drowning in a sea of hopelessness once more. She is found praying meditatively in a Catholic church while surrounded by all of Christ's symbols. The fall is the subject of her diligent philanthropic work with the underprivileged. Her remorseful friend shows up to support her. The scene immediately returns to the young child drowning, and we see a man saving the girl's life by reaching out with his arms while the water covers his face. Again, those all-encompassing, unseen arms give her strength, and she summons the courage to address the Italian parliament, embarrassing them with a allusion to the day of judgment found in the Gospels. She thus succeeds in obtaining funds for the underprivileged Italian immigrants living in America.

      Mother Teresa quite often said when she was given accolades about her work she said “I am not a social worker “go back and watch more on Mother Teresa . when you see movies on Mother Teresa or documentaries you always see her starting the day in adoration and communion. It doesn’t have to become preachy when you do that -you don’t have to gloat over that scene, but that is the center of great Saints. It’s not a peripheral and keep in mind we live in a culture now where power for certain identities is King or should I say Queen. it is not about an individual being a very good person even though that’s important. That’s not what makes the saint great, . it was about her during the will of Christ, not her own will!!!

    You're a protestant,and you're offended?
    What's new?
    Humility is needed to see past the screen. The movie doesn't show her spiritual life?No,I was also disappointed at that, but it is implicit,everything that she accomplished she didn't do it on her own. The same Spirit that lead Jesus to the desert is the same that acted through her specially in the most difficult times. No one is able to accomplish what she did by our own means.She showed ME the God that she believed in through the entire movie.I apologize if her sanctity makes you uncomfortable.
    Peace to you!

    Good movie, very poignant, but no “praying”. She was a disciple of Christ first, a Religious second and a women third.

    Not only was Jesus Christ not mentioned but there were no icons of Mary or a crucifix in any of her buildings. She founded the order of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Hart of Jesus and they did not put that on her orphanage. To me it as a woman empowerment movie.

      It’s hard to be empowered without Christ……..well spiritually……anyway.

  • @maureenmckenna5220
    @maureenmckenna5220 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    She became a nun, started her own order, Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart, and lived her life dedicated to Jesus, as the life of a nun would indicate. Little more needs to be said about relying on Christ or his example. Want a large audience to see and appreciate her story?? Then make the movie that was made, and not a preachy religious tome that turns people off. This is a commercial enterprise after all.

    Very disappointed. No mention of God or prayer. That was her strength not social work. They made her an ambitious feminist. Mother Cabrini did not attack men. Nor would she approve this movie. As a movie, secular,it was good. As a Christian movie it was terrible and it was a lie

  • @rolltide2236
    @rolltide2236 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    Do not recommend! 👎
    This film about one Christian denomination from the eyes of another denomination (not sure it was Christian) is what the film was trying to uncover - the false labeling of a group by another group. Saint Cabrini would have implored the help of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Christians call this with excitement, "Humility", the total trust and reliance on God and not self. This film shows SAINT Cabrini only relying on self. Very UN-Christian. Very UN-Saintly. Unfortunately, very Hollywood = Political!

    This movie has to be the most boring movie I've seen in a very long time. I applaud the acting. I applaud the vision. However, the film was just plain boring. A nun goes to america. Feeds and fosters poor kids. And what else? TO MAKE THE MATTER WORSE, I APPAUL THE FACT THAT THIS MOVIE DIDNT HAVE ONE AFRICAN AMERICAN OR NATIVE AMERICAN. AS IF AFRICAN AMERICANS DIDNT LIVE IN THESE DIRTY PLACES. AS IF AFRICAN AMERICANS WERENT EVEN A FORM OF HUMAN. IM NOT DECLARING RACSISM, BUT PLEASE, CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN HOW A WHOLE MOVIE DOESNT HAVE ANY AFRICANS AND IT TAKES PLACE IN NEW YORK AND CALIFORNIA? AFRICAN AMERICANS DONT EXIST AT THIS STAGE IN AMERICAN SOCIETY?? IF THE SAMOAN PEOPLE WERE MAD, I WOULD PROLLY AGREE THAT THE POPULATION OF SAMOA IN THESE PARTS AT THAT TIME FRAME WAS SLIM TO NONE. WEST INDIAN PEOPLE. THE SAME THING. BUT NOT A SINGLE AFRICAN AMERICAN? COME ON!!! ITS BS, AND the story was boring!
