  • Today, we'll doggedly take a look inside Spyderco's newest release, the Pochi, which is a weird little piece, but sadly, is hounded by a few issues.

Didn't realize you had your veterinarian's license.

Bought one of these for my wife for her collection. it's mostly a novelty but she carries it in her purse as a utility knife. The detent is pretty much the same and while lubricating it did help a bit, it still does not deploy with just the flipper tab without using some wrist action. the paw print cutout on the carry clip was a nice touch. my biggest issue with this knife was the price. even with the s45vn steel, it was pretty expensive for what you are getting. I assume your paying for the novelty design. I got it for my wife strictly for the design so that was the draw for us. i mean, come one... it's a dog knife! just don't boop the snoot, its very pointy.

I imagine the difficulty in using the flipper has more to do with the flipper tab position/geometry than the detent.

100% It is super far down the doggo's back. Should be much closer to the pivot point.

Truly objective as usual despite the man’s-best-friend lovable factor...
    Great initial impressions/tear down!

I got one for my teen-aged daughter who loves dogs, and she really likes it! When it comes to a daddy buying for his daughter, the high cost is less of an issue. So this is a group of people I think this knife is a good fit for. I can also see a guy buying one for his girlfriend. I DON’T recommend buying this for your wife (unless she’s a big dog lover), because you’ll probably get yelled at (e.g “YOU PAID HOW MUCH FOR THIS!?! 🤬).

I love this knife. Exactly because it’s cute. Eric introduced it on BHQ and said it was not a flipper. So not designed to flip open according to Spyderco. And the only complaint I have is that it will bite you in the left pocket. The tip sits very close to the surface in the closed position and it has sliced me a couple times. Shallow, paper cut kinda cut, but still painful! 9/10 for cuteness and quality.

My buddy handled one pretty recently and said that there is a variation of a two and a half finger grip available to those with appropriate sized hands. Two fingers around the frame and ring finger around the dog tail worked for him acceptably. The particular knife he handled had a stronger detent, but still wasn't a reliable flipper. But it did mean he had to use a little less wrist on the opening. He ended up buying a Benchmade Aileron instead. I'm very curious to try one myself as I think it's frigging adorable but I have massive hands.

Tuck tail and run is what the viewers do when they hear the price.🤣

I really originally thought this guy was gonna be a friction folder of some kind, which would have been cool for a Spyderco, especially a small one like that. Just another fancy and hyped ti frame lock, though.

After reassembly make sure to put the clear plastic cone around it’s head.

I know this video is older. But, I have this knife, and have same issue with the flipper. Definitely have to give it wrist.

Confirming why I passed on this knife. Seemed more an aesthetic piece than a practical one. Also I think it's pronounced poo-chee (like a pooch, a dog, get it?).
