I look at it this way Nintendo Switch is on its last year of the Switch life cycle, They released 4 non (remake/remasters) and two remakes. That are made in house and are exclusive. Like they could have coast this year. Sony on there other hand relied on third party exclusives and 1 really fantastic game and two extremely large failures. Love Sony but this was not their year. Also Lego Horizon on the Switch.
Nintendo can pump out 100 games every year. Makes no difference to me if the game isn't called Super Smash Bros. Besides I wouldn't trade Helldivers II, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, God of War Ragnarok, etc. for any Nintendo game. Straight up.
If you are only thinking about first party titles, then maybe, depending on who you ask (even though Astro Bot was more than adequate by itself in my opinion). However, on the whole, i think it was a great year if you include third party titles. My favorite game this year was Persona 3 Reload. It is a fantastic game, and i loved it, as much as Persona 5 was. I am currently playing the Episode Aigis:The Answer DLC Story Expansion, and i am loving that, getting the DLC trophies. Nlt to mention other games like Animal Well, Disney's Epic Mickey Rebushed and others.
I think because it's been a couple of years since we have had, big blockbuster games, gamers have forgotten what those kinds of games are, and accept okay games as great!! It's not just playstation it's every company!
I’d say from Sony games, it was just OK. My 2 favourites coming at the end, Astro Bot & Silent Hill. I’ve still had plenty of games to play from other publishers/studios 👌At the moment I’m deep into Cyberpunk for the first time.
It was weak year. Highlight was Astro bot but there were so many bad to mediocre things this year. But when competition is even weaker you get away from it.
Honestly 2023 & 2024 PS5 were bad in terms of 1st-party games, this shouldn't happen, we're in the middle of a console generation, Sony should be firing on all cylinders, and we still don't have a coherent strong road-map. I have little to no faith for PlayStation, and they're acquiring Kadokawa, they'll destroy From Software, my favorite game studio.
They are firing on all cylinders. The first party games will come when they come. In the meantime, there's PLENTY to play. Let alone everyone has a backlog. Be patient and clear up your backlog. Complaining isn't going to make games come any faster.
How many big first party bangers came in the first 4 years of the ps4. All they had was killzone uncharted 4 gran turismo 6 and horizon zero dawn that's it😂. So what ur saying really isn't making much sense
Yeah agreed. For most of the generation I’ve heard people say “Just wait until the middle of the generation and then they’ll truly start outputting games” bc of how the PS3 and PS4 didnt get many games until the middle of their lifespan. Yet as we approach year 5 of the console it still feels like the generation has barely begun. If it weren’t for a few third party games I’ve got, my ps5 would’ve been collecting dust almost the entire year
Until Dawn remake I enjoy playing it and play it twice. I was just starting the ps4 version when I found out that there a remake and I got excited to buy the remake
Weak relative to their best years, sure. Weak generally? Eh. I don’t think so. Rebirth, Astrobot and Black Myth are going to be the three games of the year. All console exclusives. Gaming had a weak 2024, if anything.
In terms of PlayStation console exclusives, it’s been a great year IMO, but PlayStation first party content has been lacking. Astrobot was great though.
I think people are just ridiculous. I had a blast this year. Yes Sony didn't release "big" 1st party games this year but Astro was really good and i played almost every game on this list and black myth is a masterpiece. They've been releasing amazing games for years and people act like they are done now because they had a "weak" year 😂. Next year is going to be insane with 1st party games like Death stranding 2 and Wolverine and whatever other 3rd party exclusives they'll have. I think people gotta chill and just play games.
I played GTA 5, dying light, the evil within, shadow of mordor, mad max, the last of us, red dead redemption, astro bot, ghost of tsushima, cyberpunk 2077 and days gone this year. Mostly older titles I've played before because it was a weak year!
Hell Divers 2, Stellar Blade, Astro bot and Final Fantasy Rebirth are my favorite games this year. Sony delivered for me in a big way. Even if it's not first party, they made the deals to make sure I was eating good
All games that made my cousin turn his Xbox for a PlayStation. Yet, people want to act like exclusives don't matter if it's not 1st party. Do they think people care who made it when at the end of the day they can't play it on the opposing console regardless?
When I assess if playstation have had a good year games wise, I never look at what others have made, which soony have paid to remove from other platforms. I would have gotten them anyway, just now ONLY we get them. And sony had a very good multiplayer game that I dont give a shit about, and an exceptional little platformer that I bought and then sold the next day. So I think playstation had a f-ing shit year. If nothing changes, Im gonna feel scammed
Not really sure how anyone could call it a weak year. This was probably one of their best. Stellar blade, Rise of ronin, Helldivers 2, Silent hill 2, Final fantasy rebirth, Grand blue fantasy relink, Astrobot etc. Trying to handicap them from a 1st party perspective doesn't work since playstation entire existence has always revolved around great 1st and 3red party releases I think people either have extreme expectations or are always trying to be negative But for me this was a great year and it's years like these that are the reason playstation stays where they are.
Facts, people like being negative in comments because it's the kool thing to do, then go right back to logging on their playstation. Playstation has been top tier for a very long time. Most ppl cannot even keep up... my back log is crazy. But I don't mind buying a game that been out for 2 years on sale.
My favorites from this year are Astrobot, Rise of the Ronin and Silent Hill 2. I will finally be able to play Black Myth Wukong since it's getting a physical release on December 12th.
Call me whatever you want but this has been the best year for the PS5 console, except maybe against first year. This was the first year where i saw games that make said, i want that and my PS4 can not play it. Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade, FFVII Rebirth, DDogma 2, Wukong, Astro, Space Marine 2 and Silent Hill 2... 8 games i really wanted to play is a HUGE amount for me, that's a best case scenario for a year IMO.
I've played a dumb amount of Zenless Zone Zero after having zero pre launch hype. I also put plenty of time into FF7R+Foamstar's. I'm playing Beyond Good and Evil remaster now with Cyberpunk in the mail. I have my eye on f2p games Marvel Rivals and Infinity Nikki. Not enough time to keep up!
All games the games on PlayStation this year made my cousin turn in his Xbox for a PlayStation. Yet, people want to act like exclusives don't matter if it's not 1st party. Do they think people care who made it when at the end of the day they can't play it on the opposing console regardless? Do they think people see a game on PlayStation and think "wait wait wait, did Sony Studios make it?", or do they think people go "thats a cool game, I want that" We dont play developers. We play games. 1st party is an online talking point. When my cousin couldn't play Black Myth Wukong, do people think he was allergic to buyiny a PlayStation so he can play it because it isnt first party? Or do they think he's allergic to playing because he needs Sony to spend money on it first? The online talking points don't even make sense at the end of the day, and they aren't about actually playing games on the platform.
It was a weak year for Sony Studios, but a strong year for exclusives. Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, Astrobot, Final Fantasy Rebirth, and Silent Hill 2 were great.
To be honest, it's been a pretty good year i enjoyed Rise of the Ronin and Astrobot, which I obtained both Platinum trophies for. 🏆 Now I am playing Stellar Blade on the PS5 Pro it is a fun game that has a few issues nonetheless I am enjoying it. I did finish Yakuza like a dragon this year to. I still have persona 3 to play. Astrobot is my favourite game of the year.
Not a weak year. Yall trippin, and you cant compare it to pre 2015ish years cause development and the industry has changed drastically, so its not a fair comparison. Dev cycles are not in their control, especially with todays standard from consumers
That’s not all the games. You forgot Zenless Zone Zero and the biggest console exclusive and likely game of the year, the upcoming Infinity Nikki. There’s probably more you left off too, but that’s just off the top of my head.
They had a very strong year in my opinion. Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin were incredible games. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is my personal game of the year. I'm guessing Astrobot was a good game for people who like that kind of game. Helldivers 2 was awesome at first. Concord was the only weak offering.
I got helldivers 2 astrobot silent hill 2 remake havent finished any of those, i got ratchet and clank rift apart sackboy adventure ghosts Tsushima ps5 mlb the show 24 nba2k25 is all black friday pickups, multiplat i got tekken 8
I’ll put it this way: if it was, then no one else’s was GOOD, either. Most of the games that garnered the biggest buzz and/or critical reception in 2024 were either ON PlayStation, PlayStation along with PC, or just multiplatform across the board. Switch had a year full of decent releases, as well, but A LOT OF THEM were remakes, remasters, or rereleases of old GBA, DS, 3DS, GameCube, and Wii games (which PlayStation had A LOT OF as well, but at least there was also plenty of NEW games). TL; DR - PlayStation had probably the STRONGEST 2024 out of everyone in terms of bespoke software releases. It’s just that there’s a bunch of hypocritical contrarian people in the gaming space that keep try to “move the goalposts” in order to try and generate this “narrative” that, “if it’s not first-party, it DOESN’T COUNT.”
I think that’s a good way to describe it, everyone kinda sucked this year. Nintendo basically released a ton of smaller games and remasters, Sony did basically the same thing except a few of their games did really bad like Concord and the Until Dawn remaster, and Microsoft is just off doing its own thing
@ I wouldn’t say EVERYONE SUCKED, necessarily, because there were still plenty of good releases that catered to one or two or multiple platforms. But I WOULD SAY this was a year where no one’s particular first-party really did anything MORE than “business as usual.”
Not just Playstation, but gaming in general. And it will continue to get worse from here. Game development and production costs have become so expensive and labor intensive that the good old days of gaming will remain just that. For AAA experiences at least.
Lmao they had a Solid year without even trying 😂 the salt is real with people that had no games to play on a sub service lmao. All the best games of the year released on PS, most of them Exclusively. Including the best RPG of the Year, the best Platformer and the best Multiplayer game of the year. Then you add the two best action games of the year also releasing exclusively on the console. 😂😂 Even with the biggest flop of the Gen in Concord they still had the strongest year out of the three platform holders 😂
This year for PlayStation was great a lot of great games first party and third party and next year is gonna be even bigger games are coming gamers need to have more patience what gamers having a hard time being
I was expecting a very weak year as PS even said 2024 was going to be a weak year for first party games but as far as PS exclusives that have come out this year I’m very pleased with the output and Astrobot was a home run and BMW was just an unintentional exclusive on console and was simply amazing. As far as live service however that fell completely flat with the exception for HD2 which was phenomenal. Overall was a fantastic year for PS
Of the 5 nominated to game of the year 5 are on Playstation, 3 on PC and only 2 on Xbox. If we take a Top 10 probably all see in PS and only half are in the other platforms. Weak year with Astrobot, Helldivers 2, FF7 Rebirth, Rise of Ronin, Stellar Blade, Yakuza 8, Trails through Daybreak, Unicorn Overlord, Animal Well, Persona 3 R, Metaphor, Granblue Fantasy Relink, Black Myth Wukong ... Yeah sure😂

Absolutely not. I’ve had a PS5 since launch and year this year has been my favourite year so far. I wish people would drop trying to create a divide between first and third party though. Even when it comes to first party AstroBot is a literal GOTY contender so it can’t all be that bad lol. I appreciate that earlier in the year that Sony were open and transparent when they said they aren’t going to release games from their major franchises (meaning sequels) until next year so I kinda knew what to expect and despite that it’s still been solid.
Rebirth was the highlight for me. Astrobot and Hell Divers 2 are great games, but they don’t stick with you quite like Rebirth. Looking forward to part 3.

Sony doesn’t have a weak year in their playbook, was there any juggernauts this year like a new Naughty dog game, or Rockstar game? No but they still had a great year. With games like Steller Blade, Helldivers 2, Final Fantasy Rebirth, Black Myth Wukong, Astro Bot, silent Hill2 remake & Horizon that looks & plays like a remake… if you think that’s a weak year 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🙄
So we got FF7 Reunion, Silent Hill 2 Remake, Black Myth Wukong, Astrobot and Stellarblade (all of these games are nominated for GOTY and GOTY subcategories) but somehow it is a bad year for playstation? 😂
@@insayno This is part of the “narrative-pushing crap” I’m talking about. MOST of the highest-profile games this year were on PlayStation. Not ALL of them were ONLY on PlayStation (even though, as of this writing, quite a few of them are) but a lot of people keep “feeding” this stupid narrative that if it’s not released by a first-party studio, then that platform is thereby EXCLUDED from being associated with the quality releases it DID receive (and it’s really, REALLY disingenuous because a lot of these SAME PEOPLE were cheering on receiving games like CrossFire X, The Medium, The Ascent, Tunic, and so on before they ended up releasing to MOSTLY tepid reception and then going to other platforms).

If Sony had a weak year than Microsoft had a shitty year! Sony came swinging with the pro and few first party games and second party games plus accessories. PlayStation outselling their rivals just with that alone Sony had a good year
NOOOOOOOO If anything 2025 is a scary year. Considering all the bad press surrounding “Yotei”. We had Stellar Blade and Rise of Ronin. Both MASTERPIECES! The regular gamer (yearly cod player) isn’t smart but if you’re a gamer that loves gameplay then YOU MUST PLAY RISE OF RONIN. Then Wukong. The literal GAME OF THE DECADE was a PS5 semi-exclusive. PlayStation would be gaming heaven if it wasn’t for dumb woke decisions. Concord will never be forgotten and WE WONT LET SONY FORGET IT! Absolute betrayal of a video game. Never go that route again! F Woke trash!
It was solid however the pace of releases and expectations were too high also I feel gaming has also been hit by world politics, financial troubles and chip shortages and the move towards digital only
I was very satisfied with the year, but that has also to do with my taste for games and that i don’t prioritize first party games. In fact, most of my favorite games of all times are third party games. My reason to be on PlayStation is not the first party games really, it’s the fact that PlayStation has the very best third party support in the industry. PlayStation is even securing the best mobile games. It’s the platform where you barely have to miss out on anything exciting and there is just a very remarkable consistency and reliability when it comes to third party franchises. No one matches PlayStation when it comes to this. So for me, we saw great games this year, extremely great games even, all playable on PS5. Even Xbox games will soon all come to the platform and make it even more worth it. There is really nothing to complain or be worried about, only exception is of course when you’re solely focused on first party stuff, because then yes, this wasn’t the brightest year, especially with Concord being the biggest flop in the industry ever.
When the bar is so high, that a year with GOTY noms is still questioned as a weak year, you know youre the leader of gaming. Xbox's "good" years this generation have been every year 😂. The bar is so high for PlayStation and I love it.
It's wild to me that even though this was a weaker year for PlayStation, it still managed to hit numerous nominations...even while releasing fewer tent pole franchises and cancelling others.

Nintendo Switch is on its last year of the Switch life cycle, They released 4 non (remake/remasters) and two remakes.
I agree. I don't play developers, I play games. And all i know is there are a bunch of games that are only on one console and it's PlayStation.
a very weak year for Playstation
Meanwhile, HellDivers 2 is one the biggest games to come out in 2024, and Astro Bot is among the highest rated games to release in 2024
Zenless Zone Zero is another PS5 console exclusive that released in July, 2024.
Helldiver's 2, Final fantasy 7, MLB and Grand Blu
I think because it's been a couple of years since we have had, big blockbuster games, gamers have forgotten what those kinds of games are, and accept okay games as great!! It's not just playstation it's every company!
Great year for gaming, weak year for playstation
With all of these GOTY noms? Lmao 🤣
@victory7763 what did your playstation make out of all these noms?
@@AJ-eh5kn make?
@@AJ-eh5kn 😂playstation made Exclusive deals. Making my purchase of the console valuable and making the ps5 the definitive console.
@@AJ-eh5kn but games are selling better on PlayStation
I’d say from Sony games, it was just OK. My 2 favourites coming at the end, Astro Bot & Silent Hill. I’ve still had plenty of games to play from other publishers/studios 👌At the moment I’m deep into Cyberpunk for the first time.
If you include third party games, then it was a great year, but if you’re only including Sony exclusive games then this year was the definition of mid
First party was weak only first party game was Astro bot.
"They'll destroy FromSoftware" My guy what? You must be a seasoned PlayStation insider/veteran to make such bold claims no? 🤦♂️🤣🤣🤣
Are they also going to destroy Sucker Punch, Insomniac & Naughty Dog? 🤣
If it weren’t for a few third party games I’ve got, my ps5 would’ve been collecting dust almost the entire year
How many times has this question been asked and answered? Pretty sure it’s clear Playstation had a great year. Third-party games equal greatness also.
2022 was the weakest year for goty
@victory7763 I agree with you. I can tell you idc who makes the game. I care that I get to play it 💪🏼
When I assess if playstation have had a good year games wise, I never look at what others have made, which soony have paid to remove from other platforms. I would have gotten them anyway, just now ONLY we get them. And sony had a very good multiplayer game that I dont give a shit about, and an exceptional little platformer that I bought and then sold the next day. So I think playstation had a f-ing shit year. If nothing changes, Im gonna feel scammed
TBH, yes! Sony acted like they dont care. NO showcase was a letdown. There's really no hyping us anymore and it's just sad.
Not really sure how anyone could call it a weak year. This was probably one of their best. Stellar blade, Rise of ronin, Helldivers 2, Silent hill 2, Final fantasy rebirth, Grand blue fantasy relink, Astrobot etc. Trying to handicap them from a 1st party perspective doesn't work since playstation entire existence has always revolved around great 1st and 3red party releases
I think people either have extreme expectations or are always trying to be negative
But for me this was a great year and it's years like these that are the reason playstation stays where they are.
Facts, people like being negative in comments because it's the kool thing to do, then go right back to logging on their playstation. Playstation has been top tier for a very long time. Most ppl cannot even keep up... my back log is crazy. But I don't mind buying a game that been out for 2 years on sale.
@@christopherlewis6915 don’t forget PlayStation outselling xbot and came out swinging with the PS5PRO Sony had a good year indeed
My favorites from this year are Astrobot, Rise of the Ronin and Silent Hill 2. I will finally be able to play Black Myth Wukong since it's getting a physical release on December 12th.
PlayStation 5 has been weak since it launched. It’s lonely at the top for them with no competition.
It did a lot better than the green team.
For sure
Something bug come this week
Ps5 going out soonish, ps6 being introduced? Its about to get slower or boringer to other ps players.
Forgot about Granblue Fantasy Relink, the game was fantastic!
Give entropia demo a try. It will be another one you add to that list.
Rebirth made the year for me
I've played a dumb amount of Zenless Zone Zero after having zero pre launch hype. I also put plenty of time into FF7R+Foamstar's. I'm playing Beyond Good and Evil remaster now with Cyberpunk in the mail. I have my eye on f2p games Marvel Rivals and Infinity Nikki. Not enough time to keep up!
Lmao Sony dropped multiple GOTY games.
All games the games on PlayStation this year made my cousin turn in his Xbox for a PlayStation. Yet, people want to act like exclusives don't matter if it's not 1st party. Do they think people care who made it when at the end of the day they can't play it on the opposing console regardless? Do they think people see a game on PlayStation and think "wait wait wait, did Sony Studios make it?", or do they think people go "thats a cool game, I want that"
We dont play developers.
Last year wasn’t exactly setting the world in fire either.
This year read below average for Sony.
FF VII rebirth was the highlight for me
That’s not all the games. You forgot Zenless Zone Zero and the biggest console exclusive and likely game of the year, the upcoming Infinity Nikki. There’s probably more you left off too, but that’s just off the top of my head.
The 1.4 patch of Zenless Zone Zero will bring the game to Xbox. ZZZ was a great surprise that's F2P, super fun!
It was other way around. Astro is amazing but Stellar and Ronin are mediocre or ok.
@wolfgangvonhertzen9820 I disagree about Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin.
I have psvr2. And it's great! It's much better than I thought it would be. Good time to have a playstation. Nothing but good things to come.
Stellar Blade is one of my favs this yr
@
I wouldn’t say EVERYONE SUCKED, necessarily, because there were still plenty of good releases that catered to one or two or multiple platforms.
This year for PlayStation was great a lot of great games first party and third party and next year is gonna be even bigger games are coming gamers need to have more patience what gamers having a hard time being
To all the Noobs in gaming, PlayStation does a 3rd party fiscal year every generation . Keep up.
Honestly yes Starting with STELLER BLADE then ASTRO BOT and this is just and extra with WUKANG ❤❤this year it was super good for us PlayStation fans
Sly cooper on ps classics you forgot that
Of the 5 nominated to game of the year 5 are on Playstation, 3 on PC and only 2 on Xbox. Yeah sure😂
The none fan boy dose not care if the game is first party or not. People see the game can just the can just play it on PlayStation the will buy the game and a ps5
When it comes to first party exclusives not that strong but when it comes to overall, it was pretty good
Stellar blade
Rise of the Ronan
Black myth WuKong
Astro bot
Helldiverse 2
Final Fantasy 7 rebirth
Silent Hill 2
foamstars(I know people didn’t like this one, but I personally did)
Absolutely not.
I am waiting for Part 3 instead
No, it wasn't
Congratulations 🎉 on 100k subcscribers! Been with you since around 45k so chuffed to see you achieve this TH-cam milestone
The people who talk about first party games show me the 1 party games that came out that was big with the ps4 list by year i bet it was not 5 games a year
They going to ignore what you said. They never have a response to this.
@victory7763 its easy to do ps4 was weak when it came out kill zone was not great for many and well the weakest in all of infamous games in second son and it was tech demo short game that show what ps4 could do.
it was a weak year for the whole industry, 2025 will either be the best in history or riddled with delays
Too many third person action games.
Sony doesn’t have a weak year in their playbook, was there any juggernauts this year like a new Naughty dog game, or Rockstar game? No but they still
had a great year.
@@insayno
This is part of the “narrative-pushing crap” I’m talking about.
PlayStation’s worst year would be better than Xbox’s best offerings. 💯
Stellar Blade released. It was a great year 😁
I’m just playing silent hill 2 now I’ve just defeated that lips guy 😂 such a weird game never played the original good though enjoying it great with the pulse elite headset playing it on the pro aswell
I got so many games that a slower good yr was very enjoyable
If Sony had a weak year than Microsoft had a shitty year! Sony came swinging with the pro and few first party games and second party games plus accessories. PlayStation outselling their rivals just with that alone Sony had a good year
NOOOOOOOO
If anything 2025 is a scary year.
Its impossible for PlayStation to have a weak year when they are so far ahead
When the bar is so high, that a year with GOTY noms is still questioned as a weak year, you know youre the leader of gaming. Xbox's "good" years this generation have been every year 😂. The bar is so high for PlayStation and I love it.
You forgot every PSvr2 game, which all are console exclusive
It's wild to me that even though this was a weaker year for PlayStation, it still managed to hit numerous nominations...even while releasing fewer tent pole franchises and cancelling others.
I thought that read - 'Was 2024 Really a Woke Year for PlayStation?' :D I have enjoyed this year on my PS5 👍 Could of done with say 2 big SONY AAA Studios Exclusives but apart from that I have played on my PS5 nearly every day 😎
Strong? No
Weak? Also no
It's mostly Xbots that say it's a weak year for Playstation.
There have been plenty of good games this year.
Are they first party? No
Does it matter if a game is 1st party when I'm playing it? No
At least 7 titles in that list that I bought or want to buy/play.
Add in the 3rd party multiplatform titles and it's been a busy year. Currently playing Dragons Dogma 2.
Good year, I'm looking forward to next year and Sony adding in their own titles to the mix.
