I worked up a linear quick story list for the main points, following Anduin from the beginning of Legion to now. It's a look at how he's grown and changed and the basics of things. The Shadowlands story is basically a possession of Anduin by the Jailer, who controlled him through the expansion. I’m giving the title, the name of the channel that has it, and the length of each. Where needed, I also give a quick name to the characters involved. These are not totally in order, there is a change in the in-game order for the Battle for Azeroth cinematics because Old Soldier actually comes before the announcement cinematic in chronology. Anduin here is awesome. And so real. If you've seen people after they've survived a battle, or a tragedy, that's the look they have in their eyes. That's the expression they have. It was once called Shell Shock. Now it's PTSD. That thousand yard stare... It's one of the heart stopping, blood chilling things you'll ever (hopefully) see. The only time it can be more horrible is when you look in the mirror and you see it there.
My little brother's a former Marine who has it. I've seen that look, the whole time they were doing that story in Shadowlands, I kept saying he was going to be having it and sure enough, it was there, in his eyes and reaction. Just broke my heart.
Cannonically, The Hoard and Alliance are at peace now, but Anduin has always been friends with several Hoard leaders. I think he holds out his sword to show he's traumatized, and Thrall stepping forward to stabilize his trembling means he's there for Anduin, of course Anduin wasn't going to actually hurt Thrall, they're kinda buddies. Anduin is a priest (even though he wears plate), they use holy or "light" magic, after what he was mind controlled to do in Shadowlands, he doesn't feel worthy of the light, what awesome is Thrall has been a mentor to him, and has gone thru the same thing, with his connection being to the earth and the elements and doubting himself.
Cool little parallel between thrall and anduin in that sense. I also need to ask, is Thrall back with the elements? Do they answer to him? Is he at all shamanic anymore? I've even leveled through all the xpacs, I just can't recall. A lot of the story happens outside of the game too, as I'm aware, I just haven't consumed all the non-game media.
RIGHT?! I don't know why I was feeling sad for Anduin or Thrall cause I don't have the "I've played for 20 years" connection.. AND YET! True craftmanship. Let's play WoW together!
Short version, he was kind of turned into Arthas, not literally turned into Arthas but he was mind controlled & did some shit. So now he is living with that guilt of what he has done. He has been MIA for like 2-3 in WoW time.
@@GalaxyAUS Cause in these 5 minutes through dialogue and animation you got the key things about what these characters are, what they are going through, and what is important that's about to come. You don't have the details, like Anduin's time under the domination of the Jailer or Thrall's struggles with the elements after killing Garrosh, but you know Anduin's been through some shit, he needed time to figure himself out, but that time is coming to an end as something more important looms on the horizon.
YAY! Lover of both games! I'm playing through WoW for the STORY at the moment (I know - it's a hefty project) so I've taken a break since main EW story with FFXIV but keen to jump back in with Dawntrail maybe?

Sword context a god who fell to madness out of fear has been searching for the planet were on (azeroth). In legion due to some events we brought him right to it, however at the last minute after helping his brothers/sisters (named the pantheon) he gets forced away and prisoned with them. In a last ditch effort he stabs the planet with his sword in hopes to kill the being slumbering in azeroth.
Great video, as a big WoW nerd, I love seeing non-wow players react to the Cinematics. One small note (no shade, take with a grain of sand): it was a little distracting watching you look at your phone from 2:08-2:30 (and missing a pretty key moment). I know you were looking up if it was Thrall or not, but (and I might be alone here) I find react videos are always a bit better when the person is hyper-focused on the actual content.
I play both WoW and FFXIV. The ginormous sword is the Sword of Sargeras that was stabbed into the planet by Sargeras, who is a Titan(larger than the planet) and has been imprisoned since the end of the Legion expansion. The Sword is sort of a dropped storyline(part of Battle for Azeroth dealt with the results of the sword) and became a meme ( "What sword?" ). It looks like we're finally doing something about it...maybe...I can't wait to find out!
TL;DR: Anduin was corrupted by Sylvanas, and nearly helped the villain win, but his dad's spirit helped brink him back from the edge and he temporarily abdicated so he could go off and...basically find himself. Also...yeah, it's been sort of a running joke that Blizz have been pretending that sword didn't exist. Also also, is it just me or does the CGI in their trailers keep getting better?
THE CGI IS SO GOOD! They showed a Classic Cataclysm trailer just before and the DIFFERENCE! Thank you for explaining the Anduin thing. I have a LOT to catch up on. Maybe I should watch/upload more? haha
@@GalaxyAUS I was saying to my Mum (I showed her it cos why tf not lol) and we were both saying there are full-length Hollywood movies who can't make CGI that realistic. I mean, I won't complain about more content, I was going to say I'd love more YT streams but I know those can be a bit of a pain in the butt compared to Twitch
Yeah the CGI is SO GOOOD. Have you seen the Warcraft movie? I'm looking in to streaming here, too! I can multistream now with Twitch so I might do that. I play variety games so it won't all be WoW though!
@@GalaxyAUS Well, the Classic Cata trailer is done by a guy on youtube named Hurricane. He's been doing these kinds of cinematics for awhile now and then Blizzard snatched him up so now hes making these kinds of cinematics for them. Hes very good at what he does.
I'm so hyped for this! It's a bit weird how everything was clearly aimed at people who are already very familiar with the story, but I'm happy they did it this way, because instead of a generic hype trailer we got a really meaningful, slow and dramatic character moment. Hopefully the story will give newer players a bit of context once the expansion comes out... 🙂
I have found that they're not really NEW player friendly so much? At least not in terms of understanding the game's story and things haha. Only because I'm trying to play through all the expacs now for story and it is SO TRICKY and learning to play is a little convoluted. They're definitely targeting old school players and people that have maybe taken a break for an expac or two.
@@GalaxyAUS Yeah, I get you, I have a couple of friends who just started and I noticed they're really struggling with the lore. It's very confusing. Partly it's because the new player experience could use a more focus and clarity, I'm not a fan of the current leveling system. It has its pros but it fails to establish the world in a coherent way. But I believe to an extent it can't be avoided, because WoW always had a non-linear approach to quests: even in a single expansion, it's mostly a bunch of stories about the world and characters, often times skippable or barely related to each other, rather than a focused linear campaign. It's part of the game's identity, but it takes a long time to really get up to speed and get used to all the bits of lore or the unexplained/abandoned systems. My advice would be to take it slow and enjoy it moment by moment, you'll get there eventually. 😊👍
Yeah it is just in the way the game is designed. BUT there are some lovely gems I've already experienced so far. I've been making short vlog-style videos of my journey so maybe your friend might like that as a 'this is what happened' It's not LORE HEAVY but it is my journey as I experience it put into bite-sized pieces!
