  • After an enforced two week break I'm pleased to say I'm back with an update on the work I have been able to carry out after being given the all clear. In this episode I show the development of the Riding Stables and how I am going to tackle the Canal Basin. Thank you to all my new subscribers, having passed the 500 mark, and thank you to all those who have kindly commented and given me support. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you Euan. Was good to be able to do something at last - funny how even two weeks off can have an affect on you.

Hi Steve, glad all went OK for you 🙂 You make such rapid progress on the layout! Like you say, it's coming to life. Looking forward to seeing how it looks as a completed canal 🙂

Thank you Jonathon, feels like its slow progress to me but I suppose its because I had an enforced layoff for two weeks! I have a few other bits and pieces to complete before I attempt the canal so it may be a while before you see it finished!

Great to see you back in action Steve! I see you've been busy building again! Great idea to have a brewery next to the pub! I love the look of the canal basin walls! Hadn't thought of using Balsa wood in that way, so must put it on my list of materials to try when I'm building Shelfington reservoir! Good luck with the PVA water! I'm sure it'll look great if Stephen's is anything to go by! Looking forward to the next update already! All the best, Ian.

Yes Ian definitely get some balsa wood - I just bought a pack from Amazon of 10 pieces of balsa sheet and a pack of balsa sticks and its amazing how easy you can make your own bits from it. I now plan to make a few sheds from the stuff and even some offices for the canal - using scale scenes paper and spare windows from Metcalfe kits.

Hi Steve, good to see you back in the shed. Great, to see your progress and a nice running session. We're looking forward to seeing the next update on the canal basin. Over in Dylington we've been cleaning up the custard spillage 😂 ...cheers James 🙂👍

Everything is coming long nicely Steve. I was reflecting watching the running session, that it wasn't so long ago that the trains were running around a layout which was only track. Canal and its basin coming along nicely. You were right to raise up the bed of the canal. I think they are only about 5-6 ft deep. Could to see you sealing the new layer well. If the PVA can find a gap to leak away it will. The first layer of PVA will also act to seal the foam if it needs it. Look forward to seeing the results. Stephen

Thank you Stephen - I've watched avidly how you have done your canal and hopefully I can emulate your success. I am going to try a test piece first and see how it looks and then go for it but I think it will be the last bit I do on that section, I need to get the back area completed first as I don't want to be leaning over the canal and dropping bits in it!
