Justice Scalia was the most logical, principled, constitutional member of the Supreme Court. He served the country and all of us well, even if libtards are too ignorant to realize it. Hopefully we can appoint another constitutional conservative to carry on his legacy. You will be missed Justice Scalia! Rest in peace and God bless.
I recently completed a course in college in which our professor spoke a great deal about Justice Scalia and he had us memorize the major cases he was involved in. As a supplementary reading, I read all of the biographical books on Scalia that our library possesses. Antonin Scalia was a remarkable person. The aspect that I find most noteworthy of Scalia is his love of etymology, the gentleman would trace words as far back as 1603 to finalize his point in how that particular word held such a merit for the protection and retention of personal rights. I felt a personal relation to Scalia because I myself love etymology. I collect and read Webster's Unabridged Dictionaries. I own many decades of Webster's Dictionaries: 1864, 1875, 1926, 1934, 1937, 1944, 1956, 1960, 1965, 1970, 1986, 1989, 1994, 2002.
A courageous and penetrating legal intellect, yet also with compassion. A credit to nation's highest court. How grateful we should be that a mind/soul as wise as Justice Scalia's sat for years upon the SC's bench instead of the likes of many who weakly attempt to distort and dishonor him in this column.
He is a smart man but he dishonored himself a few times, as evidenced in this video. A hunting trip with a "buddy" against whom the Supreme court was considering a lawsuit? See how ludicrous his argument was for not giving enemy combatants a jury trial. What are we, ISIS? Morals and ethics evolve over time, mostly for the better. To be an unyielding originalist is hardly a sign of great intellect, and this will remain a blot on his otherwise capable tenure.
@@ashb001 Scalia believed that the constitution should be interpreted as it was intended by its writers. He often wrote in his dissents about how it is un democratic for a panel of unelected justices to legislate from the bench. He would often state that it was clear that it was not intended for the supreme court to change the constitution since an amendment process exists.
“Compassion”… No, I don’t think so. The man tried to criminalise homosexuality, and thought it was something that should be frowned upon by society. One doesn’t need to distort anything to point out that he was a dishonourable person.
@@michaelallan5211 Do you have any evidence of his opinions on homosexuality? He didn't agree with most rulings in which the liberal judges would try to bend the rules to protect gays, but that isn't proof that he hated gay people, just that he was a stickler for the rules.
@@Asdf-wf6en I do have evidence, actually. Direct quote from a dissenting opinion regarding the ability of states to discriminate against people based on their sexuality, written by Antonin Scalia: "Of course, it is our moral heritage that one should not hate any human being or class of human beings. But I had thought that one could consider certain conduct reprehensible - murder, for example, or polygamy, or cruelty to animals - and could exhibit even 'animus' toward such conduct," In a 2003 case (where he voted against overturning sodomy laws) he made clear that it was imperative that people be able to protect “themselves and their families from a lifestyle that they believe to be immoral and destructive.” He was very much homophobic.

God given, as I'm confident he would readily affirm, brilliamt intellect yet was unable or unwilling to see through the false religious system that is Roman Catholicism. Sad. Tragic.
IOW if you're not an atheist you're not qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice, am I reading that right? Was Ginsburg unqualified for following Judeaism?
He'll be forever remembered for his absurd logic and habitual prejudice. The man was a monster in every sense of the word. He goes before his God with much blood on his hands. Pray, mercy. He shall likely require it in extraordinary abundance
nadnarf The difference is Hillary and Bernie aren't bigoted idiots that bend the constitution to impose their religious beliefs on the nation like Scalia.
How dare he or anyone else possess a heterodox thought? It's pretty clear you've left no room for another POV to rent some short-term space in your head to at least ponder.
I always enjoyed reading his dissents. They were always spicy AF.

Amy Cony Barret is in Scalia's mold. She was mentored by him .

Only CNN would bring up the silliest controversies when talking about a conservative's death

Not really. He was a massive homophobe.
The comment section filled with cheering leftists is very revealing about their so-called "values".
