    Hey all! Thank you for all the love on these past couple of videos. I am glad you're enjoying this series! I just wanted to pin a comment to address a few of the points people have brought up in the comments.
    This is just one technique that people recommended when I looked into it. I chose it because it looked like it worked, and also it was a pretty quick technique to do. It takes a long time to depot 126 eyeshadows and I am honestly on a deadline since I only get a few uninterrupted hours a week to film while my kid is out with his grandparents, so I often have to compromise for time. This series is about salvaging some eyeshadows that I otherwise would have decluttered, so whatever outcome I have is a win in my books. If I love a palette (like Sultry), I won't risk depotting because there is always risk of breaking eyeshadows.
    If you wanted to depot your ABH eyeshadows and you wanted to minimise risk, you can do a few other things that may be a lot more effective at reducing breaking, but also a lot more time consuming. The first is to break apart the palettes to get better access to the pans. Secondly, you can also use a heat source to warm the glue instead of trying to loosen it with alcohol. Some techniques are hair dryer (which I have demonstrated in past videos), hair straightener, candle, induction stove, oven etc etc. All techniques have their pros and cons, but I recommend doing some research and seeing which suits you and the items you have access to (there is no point buying equipment just to depot one or two eyeshadow palettes). Lastly, take a lot more time and care! Again, this wasn't a luxury I had (or cared enough to do) so I did what I could, but the longer you take to pry out the pans (which may include reapplying the alcohol or reheating the pan) the less cracks when you remove the shades. Also depotting one eyeshadow palette at a time would help you maintain that level of care, doing 9 in one sitting gets very tedious and you are more likely to rush the process.
    Lastly if you do break a pan that you really love, you can definitely repress the shadow. This could involve just adding a lot of pressure and pressing it dry, or adding a small amount of isopropyl alcohol and pressing it while it is damp. Either way, repressing an eyeshadow does often weaken or dry out the formula slightly (from the alcohol) and I didn't want to bother with it since in my experience these types of dry crumbly matte shadows will eventually break again and cause a lot of mess that future Kat doesn't want to deal with.
    Hope that helps, and explains a few reasons why I wasn't too fussed about cracking shadows and what you can do differently if you are a lot more invested than I was in the shadows you are depotting 😆

    That was great. You ended up creating my dream basic B* palette. The best method for depotting ABH palettes I found was to tear apart the entire palette until I have only a plastic tray with pans. It is very easy to just blast the back of the plastic tray with a dryer. The glue is very weak. No accidental jamming of Shadows with anything sharp or cracking. Shadows just come out so easily with no damage. Anything other than eyeshadows is a massacre though🙈

LOL I thought it was a Midi size then got it a n d it was a larger, and fell in love. Hahaha. I need more magnetic palettes. I use the smaller ones to put colours I choose. Just another option. I have depotted my ABH. No breakage or crumbling. Here is my technique. It’s pretty quick also.
    1) flat iron at 350-375 fahrenheit. Set it so that it’s flat and open. Not on its side.
    2) parchment (not wax) paper on the upward facing plate.
    3) Remove the cover/back from the abh palettes using a sharp xacto type knife. You will be left with a plastic tray of pans
    4) Set the tray on the parchment for 3 min. Check to see if they release using the xacto knife. If not, two more min and check again. Start on a shade you don’t care about.
    5) Remove 4-6 shades and then reheat for 2 min and do the next 6-8.
    6) Set the shades on parchment until cooled.
    7) Use a pink pearl eraser to scrub the glue off carefully.
    Voila! This took me 15 min per palette or less.

      If I depot any ABH palettes in the future, I will do that, but this method apparently worked so I was happy to try it. The broken shadows really didn’t bother me to be honest. FOR ANYONE TRYING THIS: I did this with all my ABH palettes too! I put all my favorites into the modern Renaissance palette and now I call it my Modified Renaissance lol. I have some experience with depotting and one tip I have. If you are not keeping the packaging is to open the palette and pull the layers of cardboard off. It will make it so you don't have to dig down to get to the pans. It will look like pans glued to a flat surface and then there are less casualties. There are some videos on TH-cam about this method. And then you can apply the alcohol without worry of staining any matte shadows too.

  • @Catlady8
    @Catlady8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    For anyone interested..Another method of depotting these types of palettes is using a (hair)flat iron. I just strip the cardboard palette away as much as possible. I then lay them (one section or pan area at a time) on top of the (very hot) flat iron plate. I put a small piece of waxed paper between the iron & the shadows so no glue can get on my iron. Let it sit about a minute then the glue is soft enough to just lift the pan out with the metal spatula. You can later clean any glue that might remain with the alcohol. I’ve ruined a lot of shadows and I don’t have any tears left to cry so this method is the most failsafe.
    If you don’t have a flat iron I’ve seen some use a candle flame but try at your own risk.

For those palette packages that I didn't care to keep I just broke the package apart, all the way down to the single layer of cardboard that the pans were glued to. Hi! I am not an English speaker, so I apologize in advance for mistakes.🌺
    I have 2 shadow palettes (Jackie Aina and Carly Bybel) and in each there were shades that did not suit my type of appearance at all. I was afraid to extract shadows just by tweezers. Heating with a hairdryer also did not improve the situation (one matte shade still broke). So, I peeled off the bottom of the palette and drilled holes with a nail drill and then inserted a thin tweezer into these holes, holding the shadows on the other side and simply squeezed out the shadows from below. This is a more time-consuming process, but all the matte shadows remained intact. Thanks for the video!🤗

    i haven't tried it on anastasia palettes (only got the jackie aina one and that is not getting demolished) but with cardboard palettes just cutting them up and getting rid of the layers upon layers of paper really helps

    Also, in the future, If you crack a matte shade just use isopropyl alcohol and remix the powder till it’s malleable and press on the top with a paper towel and something hard (like a quarter for round pans) to repress the powder

    I depotted sultry, norvina & soft glam last year, I removed the plastic palette from the base & heated up the bottom over a candle, it was a lot of work, but nothing broke. What I learned from that experience overall was that it's wiser to invest in several really stunning singles rather than spending money on a palette that is going to have repetitive shades

    • @KitschSnitch
      @KitschSnitch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s funny because I have some high quality singles in palettes and I never wear them! It’s also way more expensive making one palette vs buying a couple of pre-made palettes. So it’s hard thing to predict what you’ll use most until you try many options. I personally find I use duos or quads the most 🤷‍♀️

      @Beautyonthebrain_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@KitschSnitch I’m at the point in my make up using life where I like reaching for singles to build my own pallets and decide on my own color stories. I have so many gorgeous singles that I’d rather use those on a regular basis than spend money on a pre-arranged palette. I feel like I have so much more freedom & I’m barely tempted to buy new makeup because I love what I already own.

    The Alyssa Edwards, Subculture, and Prism palette had pressed pigments rather than shadows, right? I wonder if that contributed to how fragile they were. Great video! So satisfying!!!

    • @KitschSnitch
      @KitschSnitch 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s just a way to classify them in America so that they can use a vegan red pigment that isn’t FDA approved for the eye area. Otherwise they are all very similar shadows. In general bright mattes tend to be drier in consistency, but just as many browns cracked too 🤷‍♀️
