This is a video on how to install the DragonFly Side Boxes on to a Royal Enfield Thunderbird.
Let’s start with unboxing the package. You must have with you the DragonFly boxes and the keys to go with it. You must also have another box with a set of clamps, and the bolts and nuts.
In order to install the DragonFly Side Boxes, you will need the following tools.
1. Size 13 Socket Spanner
2. Size 16 Spanner
3. Size 17 Spanner
4. Size 12 Spanner
5. Size 13 Spanner
6. Cutting Plier
If you have the tools ready, let’s start with Step 1.
Let’s begin with the top bolt of the rear shock absorber. Hold the rear nut steady and unscrew the bolt in the front with a spanner.
Step 2. Remove the rear footrest by unscrewing the bolt behind it. On the right hand side of the bike, you will end up also removing the connection to the exhaust pipe. Make sure you store all bolts and nuts safely for further usage.
Step 3. Mount the DragonFly frames onto the newly opened bolt mounts.
Step 4. Bolt the frame in with a reasonable tightness.
Step 5. There is a bolt underneath the rear part of the seat. Unscrew this using a spanner and bring in the L-Clamp and attach it to this point.
Step 6. Align the L-Clamp and the Dragon-Fly frame together. Once aligned, bring in the box. Place the box on to the frame and align the holes on the bottom floor and the side wall with the holes in the frame.
Step 7. The first bolt to go in will be the one that attaches to the L-Clamp. This bolt will go through the box first, and then the Main -frame and then the L-Clamp. Once fitted, screw the bolt with minimal tightness.
Step 8. Next, bring in the rest of the bolts and nuts and connect them to the frame through the box body.
Step 9. Only after all the bolts and nuts are in place, tighten the bolts. Start with the Chassis mounts first. Next, move along to the bolts inside the box. Give them all a good twist and tighten to a reasonable extent.
Step 10. Once the first box is fitted, repeat the same process on the other side to fix another box.
Step 11. Let’s move on to wiring the brake lamps. Two wires go underneath the rear mud-guard and power your rear brake lamp. Access these wires from below and skin them at a convenient location. Once done, attach the brake wires that spring up from the DragonFly boxes, Green to Green & Black to Red. Tape the attachment and any exposed wire with Insulation tape.
Once done, you have successfully installed the Dragon Fly Boxes on to your motorcycle.
Make sure you check and tighten the bolts every once in a while, and especially before long rides.
