A true labor of love! My first boat was a 1960’s Tollycraft. I loved that boat! Took it into the San Juan’s and Gulf Islands. However, my happiest day was when I sold it! I can really appreciate the work you are doing! Probably much more than you originally bargained for.

I love my grinder. Along with flap discs and cutting wheels, it's one of my favourite tools. Having said that, I don't miss all the grinding and cleaning I did when I replaced the transom and stringers on a Wellcraft Sportsman. But your approach is perfectly right. Do it right, do it once! Following along with great interest. Keep up the great work!
You're making good progress! And while part of me asks, "Why fill in any holes that you are going to re-use (i.e.. trim tab and drain plug)", I also like the idea of the "clean slate" approach, especially since you're replacing the entire transom core. Your father's boat is a good lookin' craft! Beautifully taken care of! I'm enjoying following your progress. Keep up the great work!

Hey , they sell a vacuum attachment to mount on your angle grinder to Catch the dust. I just recently did a rebuild like yours and it really worked great at keeping the dust to a minimum.

Don't sand it Smooth you want it a little rough just make it level but you want it rough so the glass has something to adhere to If you have a buffer you can put a 8 or 10 inch sanding pad on it Belt sanders work good Looks like You are using polyester resins When you mix up a big batch to do the transum you have to work quick because the bigger the batch the quickered fires off When you mix it up put it on your kusa board Or I mean you could pour it onto the Cusa board Push it against the transom and screw through the transom with them screws and washers the washers In to the Cusa board to hold it together The holes on the back side you're doing it right grind it back on a bevel and then build your fibreglass up It's like one layer of 5" the next layer of 6" the next layer 7" get what I'm saying That's how you fill your holes Where the outdrive used to be
None of these boat builders WARN about what you could come across. My project is an example of that. I purchased what i thought was a 16 foot Chaparral. the numbers matched the boat on the boats registration. it turns out it's a 19 Foot Dynasty Apollo. I will have the department of wildlife inspect the boat and run the numbers tomorrow.
@@LindellAdventures i would say that. however, it was hand written by the seller. so uhm yup. i don't believe it was a manufacturer error. however, it is a Dynasty Apollo 19 foot ski boat. i found this out by using the web to research the hulls design etc.
Awesome project, I just binge watched from start to where it is here! Question though, would it make sense to fiberglass the inside of the larger holes before putting your core boards in place, to give you better adhesions, and a flater surface, when you patch it from the outside? I have no experience with fiberglass so just curious.
I plan on putting in the Coosa board and getting that part done and then coming back and filling the holes and glassing against the Coosa board! Like you said. Makes a great flat part to work with!

Thought about it! It was my original plan, but the layout is kind of hard to get the original transom thickness. I would have to have a 1/4 piece to fill the gap and also I am going thicker transom so I’d have to cut the inside already.

I noticed there doesn't seem to be those golf ball check drains, did he remove them?
They don’t come with his model of Olympic. Just the bilge and no self bailing holes
@@LindellAdventures that's interesting. The deck drains on the 24' seem so sketchy being near the waterline for inbailing.

I wouldn’t suggest it because they are heavy boats and that’s with disc brakes but that’s up to you!

You should of just cut out transom and started over.
