I didn't know the custom settings were still in the game, neat.
for those who don't know, these are the custom worlds generation settings that were removed in 1.13 because they were broken and the game crashed a lot in custom worlds.
you could change every aspect of the world generation from ore rates to noise settings
the dummy dimension looks like a residual code that the devs forgot to delete and the bedrock roof spawn is the overworld anti-softlock forcing the player to go up as the world spawn should never have a solid block over the player
So now this means we can still make custom dimensions!
@@TreeBranchStudios if you go back to pre 1.13 and create a custom world, you can copy those settings into a datapack and turn it into a new dimension.
really fun stuff like a dimension where all ores have 10x spawn rate but it's always night and sculk infested.
kinda annoying to do but very fun where you understand what you are doing

Also, you wouldn’t be able to have sculk.
you can create a custom dimension using custom world generation settings.
yes you can make a custom world with sculk. you don't need to use the pre 1.13 game menu but it's a lot easier than writing it directly in the world gen file, you would still have to do in the file to control the newer stuff like biomes or hight limit
I recognize the dimensions. The “dummy” Demension is a customized superflat. The “caves” is the single biome caves setup, but idk why you started at the roof. The “floating islands” is the single biome floating islands setup.
He started at the roof due to some recent patches that make sure world spawn is exposed to the sky

These "dimensions" are just dimension types for datapacks. You can easily create a datapack with custom dimensions and biomes. You can access your custom dimensions using /execute as @s in your_dimension_name run tp ~ ~ ~.
You can even change overworld settings using a datapack without any functions or minecraft code editing.

I'm gonna assume the dummy dimension is just that. A dummy to make it easier to add new ones if they want. You should try to see what the oldest version to have this dummy dimension is. If it's fairly recent (1.18,1.19) it may actually mean they are working on a new dimension.

i dont know anything about coding but i remember they added something where you can add your own dimension with datapacks, so maybe the dummy is there for you to modify to make your own dimension?
i feel like the "dummy" dimension was just a test type of world generation they made, and left behind.

when you go to choose your world type, just keep clicking on it and you can get the floating islands and caves! i have no idea what the dummy one is though...
i thought those were the world shapes for buffet world type (revoved as of 1.180

I think the "floatingisland" is a sky dimension notch scrapped if i have to guess
And the "cave" is just cave but have nether look's to it, it will be like big room or chamber like nether, if i also have to guess
"Floating island" and "cave" are actually just the names they used for the Nether and End Island world gens in the buffet world type. Kinda confusing initally, but it makes sense when you use it in-game

i recognize those settings. i know now they are there for datapacks. but previously around 1.14 somewhere those settings were used in place of the current single biome world type where you could customize how the world looked.

these dimensions are diffrent world types. caves is the caves option and floatingisland are options in the minecraft menu wenn you generate a new world

The dummy dimension seems to just be a lava pool dimension. The structures present in it just spawn because the game is treating it like the dimension you set it in, so it loads the same structures as it would in the normal version of the world.

the "dummy" dimension was generating overworld structures because you applied the dummy generation code to the overworld

I think the dummy dimension is a structure submission for every minecraft world, so it generates all the structures with a lava floor, but not the terrain

So the caves and floating islands "dimensions" both used to be fun world generation types caves only generation was removed when the caves and cliffs update happened.
i dont sure but i remeber that in old version there was templates of world which you can load and there was with lava which was named like "try to survive" or "good luck" and other was too

Interesting a new dimension is being worked on. Mojang sneak peeked that they wouldn't update the end. And a portal in the ancient cities. They are probally working on a new dimension for 1.20 but forgot to take it out of the version.

the caves and floating islands are not secret dimensions they are just different world types that were removed from Minecraft in 1.18
Back in Indev mincraft had a lot of world types including a floating islands one.
Floating island dimention? That sounds a lot like the aether, I know I shouldn't get my hopes up, but maybe we're getting a dimension update with the aether and other stuff? Maybe relating to the portals in the deep dark.
