    The closest performance, actually identical depending on your amp set up, to your vrx918 is the srx718. It’s the same exact box and similar drivers, besides the vrx being flyable and powered.
    I do love that the srx718 sub because I can fit it inside a small wagon or hatchback car. And it’s under 80lbs so I can carry it alone without help.

    RCF in my opinion is much better option in my country. The thing is i agree about weight and size for 918s but i have 8004 and it is mad… Blows everything else out of water but heavy and bulky. RCF NX45 is competitor with 815p and the thing is ill always take the one that is 10pounds lighter. Also smaller footprint but not sure about bass output but i read that guy compared the srx815 with nx32 which is 50 percent weaker than nx45 in sound preassure level and nx32 was louder but not as bassy cuz itnis a 12inch. So NX45 vs SRX815p i think you would realy like that speaker one of the best sounding RCF speakers (excluding high end TT+ that is incomparable)

    • @DJRickWeb

      I think they do. But they still won't match the output of those 815p. I normally need 4 subs to match the 815s on a high pass.

      @@DJRickWeb I just got the VRX and they are awesome, pairs very well with the SRX tops. I just wanted to say thank you, as I would not have even thought of getting these without watching your video. Also what setting do you typically use 80Hz or 120Hz? Thanks again..

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a drive rack to run them at 100hz. But if you can't do that go with 80hz. The 100 to 120 hz freq tend to distort the sub.

      @@DJRickWeb They're such a good value. 2x 835s on top of 2x 828s per side kicks some major ass and can easily cover 1,000 people. 2x VRX932's on top of the 828s is a good combo too; we use custom base plates that go on the subs and ratchet strap them.

    I have to mention, regardless of these few top brands, QSC, JBL, EV. Etc... You're actually saying within those brands for example, 15 inch speakers sound better than 12 inch speakers? You actually said JBL 15 inch speakers sound better than QSC 12 inch speakers. Good to know. Not trying to be a jerk here but, your comparison is so off & obvious. Most 15's have that potential over 12's. Maybe try 15's vs 15's or 12's vs 12's, make & model, series, plastic vs wood in their respective performance categories. Ex: EV- ELX, EKX, ETX. JBL- PRX, SRX, STX, QSC, KW, K-series, & K.2's. None of the entry-level and mid-level series of these three brands can compare to the top level of each brand. No PRX 15" could out perform an ETX 12". Your point is actually moot. Compare Apples to Apples! At least categorize before comparing. Ultimately, a good video and thanks for trying to help people. I've actually learned a few things from you myself. Best wishes, stay healthy, & keep up the good work!

      I am confused as to where the other brand are coming from here. This was a review on JBL srx 815p and vrx918sp subs....
      To comment on the intial question. No a 15inch speaker does not sound better then a 12 inch speaker. A 15inch speaker will produce more bass then a 12 and therefore if you are not using subs a 15 would be the better option. If you are using subs though a 12 provides better clarity and full sound range then a 15. Ultimately a 3 way top would be the best overall full range clarity but that's a different discussion

      Ladies & Gentlemen. Favorite brand of speakers aside, do you not realize, the quality of your dj mixer or soundboard, has a tremendous affect on the sound of your speakers? Exaggerated example. $10,000.00 speakers will sound like garbage coming through an $80.00 2 channel mixer you bought at the flee market on Saturday while walkin' around with your spouse cause y'all were bargain shoppin'! Research for best results. Don't go to McDonald's and order a T-bone steak. Trust me on that advice.

    If you ever upgrade get the EV-ZLX 15P powered tops. Has built in DSP & handles 95% of the events/rentals I do here in Michigan. Use that matching 18” power subwoofer for larger events...
    Then I also use the EV QRX-115/212 tops with matching EV QRX-218S subs with a all QSC or CROWN amp rack depending on venue power for extra large events, longer events, or mini concerts at local venues...

    Hey DJ Rick, I have a question for you, I have 4 subs. 2 prx718s and 2 vrx918s. When I play each series by themself they sound great but when I try to play one prx sub with the other 2 vrx subs they sound a bit off. I've realized that when I have them close to one another I need to switch the phase on the prx to 180 and if I have them spaced it sounds louder with the prx on 0 phase. But when doing this, even though it sounds louder, it sounds out of phase to my ears. Do the vrx subs naturally play with reverse phase? And is it a bad idea to mix the subs ? How can I combat this?

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You got me a little puzzled. I have to be there to kinda figure it out. Spacing them out can lead to the sound waves creating dead spots if done incorrectly. Cross over puts for the subs are different and the boxes are tuned differently as well which can lead to other problems.

    Great Video! I always enjoy watching your content. Not sure if anyone recommended this already, but if you are looking into new subs, I would REALLY look into the DSL TH118 or a JTR Orbit Shifter. One of either of these will easily crush a SRX828SP in both sound quality and output, while being smaller. The downsides of these are price, and weight. You can get them powered, but the price jumps up fast. Orbit shifter can be had for under $2000 passive. However, going with the dual JBLs is good for brand matching, so its all up to where your priorities are. Good luck!

    How's it going Brother Rick.. Nice video. I have a huge problem, I been looking at some new powered speakers to replace the ones I use currently. I've been using my E.V. 3 way full range for about 25+ years. Yes 25 years.. Lol.. The output of each E.V. is 2,150 watts RMS with 140db. each cabinet houses an 18" Woofer 10" midrange and a Super high output Baby cheek Tweeters. Enough for 200-1000 people. Lately I've been Deejaying 50-150 people gigs and these Monsters are way too Loud. Do you think a pair of JBL SRX835p would be Great for what I need..?? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Rick Web. I recently started looking into DJ'ing. And so far I'm doing good. But I recently purchased a speaker (Harbinger Vari V2312), and I noticed that after some time of use, the speaker started to get warm. At first I was like ehh, ok. But a few minutes later, I touched the back of the speaker again, and it was even warmer! I don't know if this goes with all speakers. But is it possible for speakers to overheat? And how can I let my speaker last longer without it getting overheated? Hopefully you'll read and reply. Thanks!

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Speakers absolutely can over heat. But by design the back of the speaker is supposed to get hot since that's the heat sync. But you kind of get into one reason the harbingers are not that great. They dont give you any indicator of when or if there going to over heat. They will just turn off if they over heat. Then whenever they cool back down they will turn back on.

    • @IamIanMusic
      @IamIanMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      DJ Rick Web well. I mean the speaker still has that limit feature. The speaker's LED in the front turns red if it's too loud and will overheat faster! I think it's best to buy another one, so each speaker do less amount of watts. But hey, thanks for the help!

    Good review, but I don't agree with the prx and srx sub comparison. The srx 818sp is smoother, deeper and a bit louder. They are similar, but the srx does it a little better. My problem has been, the 815p's over power the 818sps. I have two stx818s' that does a little better, but you do need two 18s for every srx top.

    • @00ninja00
      @00ninja00 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! You can always turn down the top to match, but to match perfect I’ve always ran them exactly as u mentioned.
      I always run 2x single 18s to a single 15 top or even a double 15 top for bigger events.
      So example: a srx715 top and two srx718 subs stacked per side, if I need more sound, I’ll do 2x srx718 subs and a srx725 top. Also run 2x prx618xlf with 1x prx615m top. The srx718 is the same exact sub as the vrx918 without the fly points, and of course not powered.

  • @chunkychev

    I don't get why people have a problem with size and amount of speakers for their gigs, I never run my 15 inch speakers in tops configuration I always play them in full frequency mode(they have eq on them) it's a waste of speaker just playing them in HF mode, if I'm doing a hundred people I use them as is, if I do a prom I just add my subs (which have manual variable crossovers points ) and that gives me plenty of punch , i do a lot of Reggae and hip hop parties , I think he's after a bit of sponsorship from JBL , I personally think JBL are light on the bottom end my.

    • @DJRickWeb
      @DJRickWeb  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Running full range with subs can lead to comb filtering with the same frequencies coming out the tops and subs. The JBL subs tend to get lower then competition but they struggle in the mid bass 100 hz to 120 hz. That's why I am going to switch to probably martin audio subs.

    • @DJFriendZone
      @DJFriendZone 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree about the comb filtering part; if you're using subs you should always HPF your tops unless you really know what you're doing with RTA. I know you've worked with the VRXs before and I've been a fan of them for a while.

Quick question: I just got two of the SRX815P's (right before everything got shut down) but due to events getting cancelled/postponed left and right, haven't had a chance to use them yet. I got them mainly so that I can avoid bringing subs with me to gigs if possible. I only play at indoor venues...nothing outdoor. In your opinion, what is the max number of people (or better yet the max room capacity) that you'd feel comfortable using these for without subs. I only bring up room capacity cuz sometimes you'll have like 100 guests in a massive room that can fit like 250 so I like using the room capacity to gauge what setup to bring. Thanks man!

I have the 818xlf's and the small 815's that I us on the Gator ID series sub poles. Really impressed with what it will do now. Would I get more bang for the buck getting the SRX dual 18 to put mid stage and would a pair of the new prx's even keep up (high pass mode) or would you get 2 more of the prx 818 cabinets? Base on experience.... a bridged 4002 is a stretch to power two single 18s. It will fully power them, but the benefit of the 6002 is you wont have to push the amp as hard to get the louder volumes and there for less power draw and clearer audio.
