@@venturamichael50 ,Audley is a phenomenal lead guitarist, especially when he’s guiding the ship, like in the Cry Of Love days. Working with the Robinson Bros. was particularly difficult I’m guessing, he didn’t get to shine.
I caught Marc at the Fox Theater last Saturday , he opened for the Allman Betts Band and man can the man play! Met him at the Merch bench and he is down to earth cool...
Marc has been one of my favorite guitarist for 25 years. I learned to play mimicking him on the Southern Harmony record. Hours and hours playing along to that album. Thanks for the music Marc!! God bless you!
I used to go to a church in Laguna Niguel where Marc played with the worship band some Sundays. Maaaan. He served up some of the tastiest backing guitar and solos during my time there. It was hard to pay attention to God during the worship music. It was like, "Ooooh man. I'm sorry God but that was a tasty lick!"
Mark Merrick My friend and I used to go watch him with the Neptunes playin clubs all over Sherman oaks and the south bay for a whole summer a while back (2008-9-10? lol) when the Neptune albums came out. Man, we would pay $10 at the door and see the best shows. It was like Marc was out to prove he was the best guitar player, with the best band, on that night, in the whole dang world!!! and it was true! He would kick our butts for 4 hrs a set! Twice at least every night we went. Just wailing guitar!!! like Trucks or Haynes or Herring or Wood are doing nowadays. LONG LIVE MARC FORD!!!!
Jay Tee yeah that was around the same time. I just hope some of those tasty licks show in my playing. If I could have one tenth of that I would be a rich man.
No need for the apology Mark. We can appreciate the gift of others while simultaneously appreciating the love of God for our lives. I would think His reply to your "but that was a tasty lick" comment would be - "Right? I love it when this guy worships me with his playing."
The Lost Crowes stuff is mind blowing. This cat is the real deal. The Music he made with the Crowes is up there with the greats. Beatles, Dylan, Hendrix, Zeppelin; The Crowes are right in there. Magpie Salute could be a classic if Omission is any sign of what’s coming.
Sam Knaak Greetings from the great state of Texas hello Sir HIW can we get in touch with Marc? Can you fiward this message to him ..we would love to meet him and also to see if he could come here to perform... doesn't he have a home in Texas? I have loved this musician from wsy back when he was in the Black Crows he was a gorgeous man and still is God bless you and yours
What a Beautiful Documentary. Mark was a MONSTER on Southern Harmony and Musical Companion. My favorite Black Crowes record. This was an absolute treat. Thank you so much. Good Vibes 👣
The guitar solo he played on the Southern Harmony record propelled the Black Crowes into the Stratosphere. Amorica & 3 Snakes made the Trifecta. So great to be able to C him play with Rich again. Magpie Salute kicks it every show. Go see them whenever u can!
I think the Black Crowes were amazing - and I think many other bands were just pretty much intimidated except for the Jimmy Pages of the world. They were on another level vs Aerosmith or really any American band, including Tom Petty. And the music stands - now coming up on 15 years after SYMM. In raw writing talent and playing as a cohesive group - no matter who was in the lineup - it's hard to think of an equal. The layers, the thickness - somebody was putting that together and it wasn't a hotshot producer working trix & magic. This was a raw electric blues-groovin' hot funk fuckin' rock a lot of us longed for but couldn't name 'till the Crowes came. It was Chris and Rich with Steve, the band's "grown-up," psychologically holding things together as much as possible coupled with his ability to groove with every bottom player they brought in. Every lineup seemed to draw the tap deeper into whatever it is that Chris and Rich have together. All IMO, of course.
Marc has that laid back groove in his playing and his musicians here perfectly understand that feeling. Love his music and the record is great too. Nice documentary too, to see what it's like to play in a band like that. Keep going, Marc !!
I've been a guitar slinger for almost 40-years. Always interested in other artists styles along the way. Then I started focusing on the Crowes with Marc during the Covid lockdowns, and I found my own style that is a blend of all the artists I've covered, but with a vibe similar to Marc...So I'm thankful to his honesty and laid back demeanor, which I feel most comfortable being...🎸🎼🎵🎶
Couldn’t ask for better rhythm section than Bazz and Antoine. I am proud to know them and to have recorded with them as well. Having recently heard this album, I really appreciate what it took to make it.
Glad to this amazing musician back with us... Looks like he's beaten his demons...I saw him when he was with the Black Crowes.. He was in rough shape...
I'll never forget posting up right in front of Marc in the front row at the FURTHUR Fest in '97...the man looked immortal up there, completely in his element. 17-year-old me thought he was a god. I knew I had the best seat in the house.
Deeply amazing advice. And a beautiful endeavor. Glad to see this and you’re right, people will pay for such awesome music in today’s digital world. Thanks for sharing.
Mark is a phenomenal musician and guitar slinger. The crowes didn’t really move me after southern harmony. However there is a band out there that in my opinion blows their asses away. Blackberry Smoke...
That's pretty funny. No band, or maybe American band could touch the '92-'97 Crowes from a pure musicianship standpoint. Blackberry Smoke is a fun little 3 chord rock band but they don't have anywhere near the catalog the Crowes reeled off in their prime years, much of it unreleased as well.
Met him on amorica tour. Such a humble guy. Asked him for a picture, and while my girlfriend at the time was looking through her bag for the camera, he actually asked "Oh, you want me to take a picture of the two of you?". Believe that? Such a great and cool rock star, who was actually just rushing from the venue out the back door and to the tour bus, over and over, trying to settle a dispute between Chris and Rich (Rich in the venue, Chris in the bus), thinks we want him to take a picture of us. Us, standing there with crowes tickets in our hands and crowes t-shirts over our shoulders that we just bought from the venue while waiting around for the place to let us into the stands, and dressed like a pair of stoned-out rock and roll losers (so black crowes circa 1994, we loved that look), and he thinks we are just a young couple who want some guy at random to take a picture of us. No thought that he was such a huge star in our eyes, that we wanted a picture of him with my girl. Of course we told him and he was super cool, and we got a truly great picture. She took it when we split up about 2 years later, never saw it again. Just like a lot of other rock star meetings, pictures and autographs I got with her, she got the whole lot of them.
i love me some BLACK CROWES i saw them with MARC back in the 90's incredible. i'm also a musician gotta love "whether anybody's listening or not it's what you do". his guitar style is very unique and inventive too he adds just the right touch of sloppiness to really give it character and he always has great guitar tones.
Marc Ford can put more emotion into a guitar solo than anybody. I mostly know his work from the Crowes. He takes that band to a whole other level. I never really enjoyed the Crowes without Marc in the band. Music is such a collaborative effort, and when it works it works.
Yes, I always felt the same about post Ford crowes and sought out whatever he did afterwards. Tell you though it's so great to see him and Rich playing together again. Loving it.
Just watched Marc tonight with Kiefer Sutherland. Blew my mind- what an honour to meet him back stage for a short time. Superb band and artist but felt Marc blended it all together with a super clean sound. Great stuff
i used to love southern harmony and shake your money maker , I haven't heard them for years.id also be interested in what jeff cease did after he left the band
Great artist and music. I just can't see him struggling to make ends meet with all that talent. Bit I am pretty sure that the digital shit with everyone recording pro stuff in their homes was done by design. Anything good with bad results in the long run is a design to make life Hell on Earth! And we will never come together so its to each his own. Do your part to help others no matter how small. Get your relationship with the most High and follow his rules.
Marc i always loved your playing. To my you are the reason to see crowes. And I think you would make better music . If you just jammed with your own band of heavy blues musicians. Not taking nothing away from the crowes. But you are another level blues great.
Love Marc! ❤️ Waaaaay More'n jus' the guitfiddle-work, songs, & artistry...( ought'a check out his deep religious roots. 🙏🏻 💙). Love All'a the Crowes' pickers...Marc, Audley, Luther, & even Rich! 😆 But Marc got a special place for them other reasons! 😉 ✌🏻
Is there anyone from The Black Crowes who doesn't give great interviews? Chris Robinson and Luther Dickinson interviews are the best! Marc's interviews are great, too!
Yeah well worth the extra money for analog tape. You have to nail it quicker cause you run out of tape unlike digital.plus tube amps cracked up to 11 . Trying to fight the feed back. Thats blue rock. Love you guys
There are trillions of guitar solos... only the best will move you to tears. Marc is so talented. Once in a lifetime musician indeed. Thank you for a lasting legacy of humbly pouring your heart out. A lot of people dont understand that it comes with a cost. Never take a great artist for granted.
Music is a tough business. This guy should have made enough money from those Black Crows albums and tours but the split you get isn't always fair. Tough business people.
Hands down, the best lead guitarist that ever worked with the Crowes...He played on their best works in my opinion
Audley Freed was very good too he just dropped into the crowes at the wrong time.

He had a big drug problem back then.
He made money regardless. Played with ben Harper after. Then magpie. He's made bank.
