If there was a Premier League game being played across the road from a League of Ireland game, I'd go and watch the League of Ireland match. I know I'm in the vast minority in that regard, but I prefer watching players who aren't all multi millionaires with flash cars, and who don't play in a ground where flies the Union Jack. I wouldn't recognise any of them in the street were it not for television. Instead they're celebrities. A lot more League of Ireland matches should be shown on RTE and Virgin, so that our own players become instantly recognisable. But most of the armchair football supporters will only follow an English team, and look down at the League of Ireland. That's why we play at 7.45pm, when we SHOULD be playing at 3pm, a time which would suit travelling supporters who want to use public transport to get home after a match. However that won't happen, because most wouldn't go to a match at 3pm because they want to watch their Premiership heroes in action.
Rapid Vienna were far superior to Rovers in the first half. At the end of which, I gave Rovers no chance. But Rovers got an equalising goal from what was their best attacking move of the entire match. Their travelling support must have been ecstatic. A draw away in Austria is a huge result for Rovers. They must be confident of beating Borac next week... an easier task than tonight's match, I reckon.
Literally on the edge of my seat at the end, could have won it but the draw away has to go down as one of best ever results for a LOI team, 3 points in next game could see them quality automatically, then the glamour tie against Chelsea, I’m going to Stamford Bridge for that match😃
When there's a high profile match at Turners Cross, there's over 3,000 at the match, but if it's say Bray or UCD, there are less than 2,000. The 1,000 or more fans who stay away are not true supporters. They're probably sitting on their arses watching Man United or Liverpool when they're playing on a Friday night.
I think Wexford are planning to move to a new ground too. Hopefully closer to the town, because Ferrycarrig Park is too far away to walk there from the town.
Decided i wouldn't go on the beer at the game but still got soaked in it when we scored. What a great night. Thought we might rock the train carriage off the tracks from all the dancing and jumping on the way back from the stadium
Very helpful analysis Keith. Thanks for this. Well worth watching to the end. Obv I am delighted for our new besties, the Shams, who we will kick-off the 2025 League with at the Aviva 😂😂😂 The bitter tears of St Pats fans over this fixture makes it ever more tasty.
Rovers making history & doing the league and the country proud, need more funding and the Irish should start getting behind our own, instead of supporting foreign teams.
Just home from Vienna. The view we had of the penno decision wasn’t great but the texts were coming in saying nowhere near. Our view was behind a big net so hard to be too sure to provide an analysis. I felt the ref was poor. He seemed eager to give the marginal decisions to them rather than us, he seemed pressured maybe by their fans, playing to the gallery a little. We were only awarded 3 free kicks which given the tempo and physicality of the game you’d think we’d get more. Anyway. We are buzzing, definitely won’t grumble. Let’s all book tickets for the final lol.
I hear there were over 20,000 people at the match. Must have been great to be in the away end with that kind of a crowd, when Vienna fans had to settle for a draw. I would have loved to have been there.
Funny thing was all around me thought it was a defo handball but couldn't be sure who's arm. When var intervened we knew it would be not given. Ref couldn't wait to dish out the cards to rovers and the Gary O'Neil one was a disgrace. Great trip and so proud and ecstatic KOH☘️☘️☘️☘️

Johnny Kenny ya beut 😍 what a result for us ☘️🇮🇪 huge for Irish football
Massive 🇮🇪
Great result! RTE as usual happy to show Liverpool no interest in supporting our own!

Brilliant result for Shamrock rovers, enjoying their achievements.Does for good reading
Drogheda United fan here, well done Rovers. Wishing you all the best for future Euro matches.
Great result. For. Rover's. But. For Ireland 🇮🇪. And. Irish football. Keep building.
Hopefully an LOI team can qualify for Champions League group stages in our life times.
Great result for Rovers and the LOI 👏👏👏👏

Definitely easier on paper, 3 points from the next game would be great, would give Rovers a shot at automatic qualification, making history.
If they can get a point or 3 in last home game they have had a unbelievable league in Europe.. brilliant results..

LOI passes the 1 million attendance this year ,up from 450,000 in 2019 ,new stadium for BOHZ and SLIGO ,things looking good for LOI

Ya I agree about the ref. Couldn’t understand how he could be so decisive to give that. VAR would have checked anyway too.

@@GouganeBarra-u4t it was brilliant. Their display was amazing, really impressive but we gave it our best on and off the pitch. Rovers in great voice.
