- Former president Jacob Zuma’s daughter and uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party’s MP, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla has been released on warning by the Durban Magistrate’s Court.
She has been charged under the Protection of Constitutional Democracy against Terrorist and Related Activities Act (POCDATARA) and incitement to commit violence relating to the 2021 July unrest.
Zuma-Sambudla will return to the court on March 20.
This brings the total number of people arrested to 69, with one successful conviction thus far.
The riots, which affected KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Gauteng, claimed the lives of 354 people.
Looting and damage to businesses and critical infrastructure resulted in the loss of over R 50 billion to the country’s economy.
The violence broke out following the arrest of Zuma for violating a constitutional court order after failing to appear before the State Capture Commission of Inquiry.
