Considering going to Rio early next year, have been watching vlogs about tours, taxis, and safety. I speak English and a lot of Spanish, but not Portuguese.
A lot of people speak English in rio and problably you can understand written information… but do not expect that everybody can understand English or Spanish if they do not work with tourism… Rio is not so safe, so you have to take care with jewelry, cell phone, cameras, laptop, etc… prefer using Uber than taxi… public transportation is safe during the day and in Metro… avoid the favelas…
@@onlyinbrazil4736 I’m curious is rio safe ? I really wanna go to rio or São Paulo . Also is Uber safe ? Another thing is should I go look at the favela in rio ?
We went to Belem. and the experience of another bill is true, more than the payment for a uber, it was more than expected. Local taxi gave y touris bill. But we are visiting Fortaleza
When I went rio first time 20 year ago the taxi from airport was ok cheap, but last time I went 7 years ago taxi try RIP me off hes meter was on hes phone , and it was going too fast the meter was. I told security at hotel and they tell him don't come this hotel no more. A yellow taxi.
Hi JJ... I've been to the same problem... =( it doesn't happen only in Brazil, but in Rio I believe it's something to be aware of. That's why I prefer apps instead.
Don't take a taxi on the queue or on taxi points usually they ask you how much you normally pay going that way, then when they found out it was your first time going there they would then contract you for certain amount, like " going there is around 75 Reais, deal? " something like that. So what we do is, go out from the place (from bus station for example), walk on the streets and get a taxi from there. 😀
Hihi very useful information. Thank you so much. I am going to fly to Rio, GIG airport 5pm on 12/31. I have heard New Year Eve is a big day for Brazilians. Do u think I can manage to get an Uber and go to the hotel in Copacabana? So far I am not successful to book any airport transfer in advance. Pls advise. Thank you so much.
Do I really need a sim card or can I ge away wiht the 10 dollars a day internaitonal on Verizon? Also, why is busy morning manha ocupado day is dia but busy day is dia cheilo and not occupado?
Hi my friend! Well, I go to bars and restaurants… I play beach tennis 4x a week… well, personally I use facemask and avoid stay too close others. About numbers of cases and vaccination progress, there will be a video about this next week! ;) But facemask is mandatory in all publicnplaces in Brazil.
I'm in rio rn. Most ppl wear masks until nightfall. Only the servers have face masks in lapa. I've been full vaccinated and don't have any underlying health issues. I wear a mask as the locals do.
@@riosafado hahahahaha! Well… you’re not wrong… hehe! but… the law says: keep distance and wear facemask… 🤷♀️ heheheh! What they do isn’t exactly it all the time…
Out of all the bad stuff I've heard this is finally the video that stopped me from going to Brazil. I actually don't take uber because it's supposed to be more risky than a registered/licensed taxi. Even official taxis try to scam? Taxi drivers are even scamming their own country's people? Good luck to Brazil.
Thank you my friend for helpful tips , see you again
I've had every single one of those tricks in Rio. thank god for Uber
It happens a lot. 😔
I’m very sorry.
(It happened with me also! )

I'm going to Rio in November by myself! What tour companies do you recommend?
How can I get a SIM CARD in the airport?
You can buy in the airport, but they are expensive!
is there a tip culture in the rio (restaurants for examples)?
Yes! 10% of the price of the bill!

Every culture has its own quirks, given there is poverty. Good tips...I'm going to try 99 and see how it goes
