@@razorcloud1 if you're referring to the base shiny-chance of 1/4000, it's been that way since XY I'm pretty sure, almost a decade. And even BW kinda has those odds if you take into account the Shiny Charm, but either way, that's not really something that can be credited to SV/Gen 9 specifically.

It's a number of factors. 1. Like said above, they halved the rate starting gen 6. 2. There is a sandwich power that increases the shiny odds, the lv3 version makes it like 1/500 for a specific type. 3. There is another sandwich power that increases the encounter rate of specific types, useful with the above mentioned. So only the type with boosted shiny odds appear. 4. Pokémon spawn in the overworld instead of being random encounters, and they despawn if you move too far away, meaning you can rapidly move back and forth between areas to reset the encounters. It also helps that pokes are shiny in the overworld, so you don't need to battle one to check.
I believe it's more than 10 now. If I'm not mistaken she already has 5 to 8 shinies before she caught 3 golden magikarp. And now she caught 2 more shinies

the odds are the same i think but having the pokemon actually be there and not have to wild encounter them does make it easier
