It is a spiritual song... smoke the hookah of knowledge... which will take out Smoke/disease(illusion) of mind and body... leaving just enlightenment that leads your soul to bliss/freedom/ecasty/god... It was written by a Indian kannada monk Shishunala Sharifaa.
Ignorant think this is about Cigarettes. Newbies think this is about Hookah. Intelligent think this is about Drugs. Only wise spiritual men know what this all about.
The English subtitles of this song exactly matches with the actual janapada song, but western people smoking in the video is definitely miss leading the youth
manasemba sanchiya bicchi open the small cloth bag called mind dinadinavu moha ambo bhangiya kocchi take out the hash called lust and crush it nenevemba chilumeya hacchi put it in a chillum called faith buddhiyenuvantha kendava mele nee mucchi light it up with buirning coal called intelligence gudu gudiya sedi nodo
Completely messed up translation! Damn it, the meaning of the song is portrayed blindly. The song is about understanding the lessons that cud be learnt from the act of smoking. It's just an analogical thing. Please learn Kannada before you post the lyrics video.
Santosh R We should appreciate the uploader for his efforts in attempting translation. He has tried to translate the poem at a literal concrete level which is fine. There are multiple intricate levels at which the poem can be interpreted.
@hshanthi I both agree and disagree with u man. though this particular version of d song by raghu dixit is not folk, d original 1 is.all of shishunala sharif's work are.a folk song is a song which is not written but just sung and has caught up with word of mouth all of shari's work are. none of his work is penned. so it is kannada folk.and u r deluded if u think sharif was a sufi. he was not, though he was born muslim he believed in hinduism, he was made a brahmin by performing a thread ceremony
it is more spiritually catchier in kannada.... only an enlightened person like shishunala sharief could have spewed out spirituality from smoking a hookah...
@ sgtpepperize first try to be living then you will become calm and alert..then try to respond...othrewise your opnion will take as a piece of ****... it's all aboutyou,hw u live...but dn't be fear...if u have fear try to understand 'y u fear?'..that knowledge will become the axis of your views...
Hey awesome song by Santha Shishunala Sharif and well rendered by Raghu Dixit. But honestly maga, only an idiot can conclude that this song tells people to go and smoke! It takes the hookah to be a metaphor to life and tells how to live life properly. Perhaps you ought to change that in the description.
With all due respects... its a lovely track but... "real essence of Kannada folk is exhibited"??? certainly not... For real essence of Kannad folk... listen to Balappa Hukkeri, Enagi Balappa or any dasaiah in any villege... This song is not folk... its a new age composition... beats and tune from the mid-west (mid-east for westerners). What makes this special is that ShushunaLa was a sufi and this tune does justice to that free spirit of sufi... not kannada folk.
This is awesome.......The real essence of Kannad a folk is exhibited. Great going Raghu Dixit.
It has been written in different levels of consciousness.. Each one understands it in their own new way!

am i the only one who notices the similarity with the pakistani group Junoon, in their style of music and singing?
it is more spiritually catchier in kannada....
