Pataudi, the cricketer mentioned by a person in this video, was Saif Ali Khan's father. He was the captain of the Indian cricket team at that point i guess.

The first most striking thing is their command over English was way better than today's generation. May one of the only good thing that came out of ' colonial hangover'.
Most of the interviewed youth were from IIT Bombay.
They where in iits and they all are scholars there so, obviously they've got good English.
@@mayankkapri7305 its not true IITians today dont have the same command over english as they did. You dont study english, philosophy, literature to get into iit. You study physics, chemistry, maths .

I think it is mind blowing that the guy said he admired Zubin Mehta as a conductor in the 1960s because that man is STILL a conductor. (Primarily in an emeritus/non-working capacity but still very alive and capable of conducting orchestras on the largest world stage). As an Indian and a lifelong fan of music, it’s great to see a successful Indian like that manage to stay at the top of his craft for that long.

@@arc0613 I did not think he had won Grammies, but he has won several awards for conducting various orchestras across the world. But he does have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame!

Don't forget India had just fought 2 major wars against China and Pakistan...in 1962 and 1965 respectively..there was massive food shortage and political turmoil in the period that this video was shot! Still,there was hope in the majority of those youngsters! And they were right! Look where India is now!

Please don’t hate me for saying this but I slightly agree with one of the point made by a guy in this video. He said “We have only got a big past to boast of” I mean, yes.. I sometimes feel, for how much longer are we going to keep being proud of our glorious and rich history. I 100% feel soo damn proud of being a part of this diverse country but i feel we are neglecting the present and the future of India.
Most videos we see here on youtube, on which the foreigners react, are all about how india was rich, had many great personalities, invented so many things in the past, has these great historic monuments etc
Yes we had the most glorious past, but as a country, is india any where close to other countries that also went through major changes in the past 70-100 years, no. We are still very behind and we need to work on so many things to be as progressive as most other countries that also went through reforms 70 years ago.

Our country is divided into so many segments in cultural aspect, it is a big achievement to grow together without interfering their culture not like america and many other countries like Africa and more which were unable to safe their culture.in china visionary leader with dictatorship help them to grow. in India we are unable to built a single metro in Mumbai bcoz of ngo and reform agricultural law.bcoz we need to respect public sentiments .if these were case in china govt will overpower public sentiment to reform .

We are not living in old times where we stay ignorant about the rest of the world. As Clarke and Ray both mentioned in this video a trivia involving both of them.After screening of E.T in London Clarke called Ray and told him this script is very similar to Ray script "The Alien" .Ray was in talk with producers in Hollywood to adapt his story into the movie.Clarke asked him to file a copyright complaint against Spielberg. Even though he didn't filed any complaint Ray talked about this incident .Spielberg however denies these allegations
Ray was (and still) a very popular fiction writer too. One of his small stories is "BankuBabur Bandhu' (Bengali version. Friend of Mr. Banku)/The Alen (English version). In that story, Banku encountered a friendly alien. Before that, No story or film considered the aliens as friends of mankind. After that, Spielberg made the film E.T. and showed an alien as a friend of a boy. Before Ray's book, there was no idea of any kind to show aliens as friends of humans.

Considering Indian literacy was just around 30-34% during that time, the fact that some of them were speaking that fluent of an English definitely points they belonged to the "crème de la crème" of the society, possibly having close ties with British during the Raj. This kind of explains their hopelessness for newly independant India because several families felt helpless after British left India and were in no way satisfied with the government. And the "lucky" ones emigrated and the "unlucky" ones stayed and worked towards building a nation.

@Srishti Yes but what I said still holds. IIT wasn't for everyone back then. Living then and even thinking about graduating meant one is priviledged.
They were studying at the IIT Bombay at the time which explains their articulated words.

1960s IIT-JEE included a compuslory English Paper called CEE. You have to crack this paper to get in. It's not that you first get in IIT and then study english.
The point is for them to be able to crack the paper and get in IITs at that era itself tells they had priviledged backgrounds. Now how can you be priviledged in those times? Must be either a Maharaja or have a father who works in British regime.
It's socioeconomics, not hard at all. Get your facts right next time.

The where they're now is actually more inspiring. Some of then actually followed the path that they were talking about which is amazing. Specially the one talking about razor actually did something good

Most of guys speaking in English were from IIT and the funny thing is that the guy who was most hopeful and wanted to travel India and stay back has Infact left India and is currently well settled in USA( I think he is suffering from cancer, if I am not mistaken)

That statement of Kennedy "what you can do for the country" is so flawed. Like the girl in the clip answered - "I'm doing enough by being an honest citizen of the country and doing daily work" We pay taxes, directly & indirectly. It always should be about what the country can do for us. Period

You have gone back from 83 to 67. Please go back to 64 to review the tamil movie Server Sundaram. The film would show you the various process involved in filmmaking such as the studio interiors, song recording, horse riding scene and rain scene.
Or Ateast play this song Avalukkenna. You will find some process involved in filmmaking.

Story of an old man not happy with his married life falling in love with a young lady against the social restrictions in villages. Great music by Raja sir and acting from all the cast.
