  • Lady Londonderry had a passion for sailing on Strangford Lough from her home at Mount Stewart, County Down, Northern Ireland. It was Theresa’s yacht, the Mountstewart, that went missing on Strangford Lough on 11 April 1895 in a tragedy which took the lives of eight people, including six servants from Mount Stewart.
Thanks to the work of a team of research volunteers from Mount Stewart we are now able to tell some of the story of what happened that fateful day and shine a light on the lives of the people that died in the boating tragedy.

William Hagan was my great, great grandfather and Robert great uncle. Thank you for your research. Very interesting as I still live locally.

Very interesting. I was aware of the tragedy already and I have visited the memorial cross there but I gained lots of new info from this video. Thanks
