I ran the 1985 Engadin Marathon. I was 24yrs old at the time as an American who was working in St. Moritz on a work contract . I loved every minute of my stay and managed to do quite well when the marathon was over.
Great race to watch. Beautiful scenery. Wish there was English commentary. I wonder if the snowmobiles throwing snow in the racer's faces was a problem? Seemed like they got in the way sometimes. Good strategy by both Russia and Norway. Chervotkin made a valiant effort to wear down the Norwegians but Amundsen sacrificed himself to reel him in. It will be interesting to watch Amundsen in coming years. Bolshunov had his chance but tired at the finish. Both Krueger and Holund in top form turned on the gas and pulled away at the end. Both took their turns at the front to help catch Chervotkin. Norway showed its dominance once again with six in the top eight. Surprised to see Klaebo right there to the end. Has he been working on his endurance? Great effort by him in beating Bolshunov in a 50K event.
did you see the women's 30k? they didn't seem to be very happy at times with the snowmobiles when they were right in front of them because of the snow spray (and possibly also the exhaust?). there was even a moment when one got too close and Parmakoski did a "shoo" gesture with her hands to the camera.
@@ianism3 Totally depends on the situation and wind. Most of them seemed to want the snowmobile for slipstream in the womens race. Stupak even waved for the snowmobile to get in front...

The norskies crushed Bolshunov again. Don't think Bolshunov would have won the overall WC if Norway didn't skip all those WC races and the TDS due to the corona situation.
He won because he's the better allround skier... Just like with Jessica Diggins there are better sprinters and better long distance skiers but very few have that range. Only Klaebo could have possibly matched him for the WC overall but he'll still have to prove he can perform in long distance over an entire season agianst Bolshunov...
@@BilldalSWE I beg to differ. On the womens side Johaug would most surely have won the WC overall if she didn't skip all those races and tournaments. Diggins admitted that herself. In terms of Bolshunov he's not part of a national team with the strength to match the Norwegians. Tactics plays a big part in a race, just like in cycling. Although results may look individual at the end stuff happens during the course of the race that affects the end result. Just look at the results, when the norskies came back to race in the World Championships Bolshunov was not even top 3. He was beaten by several of the Norwegians. I really do not think Bolshunov would have managed to stay at the top in the WC overall IF the norskies would have participated trough the season. It's just a matter of common sense. The pressure of the superstrong Norwegian team and their joint efforts would have been too much.
@@Underhills Lol, I said nothing about who would have won in the womens cup... Are you disagreeing that Diggins is a better allround skier than Johaug?? Johaug would have likely won because the cup is more distance oriented. Not because she's a better allround skier. She has absolutely nothing in sprint. As for Bolshonov not even being top 3 in the world championships . What?? He got gold in 30k, silver in 50k , silver in 10k relay and bronze in the team sprint. So individually he performed better than any man in the World Championship. With all the norweigians there. By the way. Who won the mens WC AND Tour the Ski last season with all the norweigians there? Also, no one has disputed that the norweigian TEAM is the best in the world... It just doesn't mather as much as you think it does on an idividual level. Even the Norweigian TV cross country specialist hold Bulshunov as the overall best skier in the world.
@@BilldalSWE Again, I beg to differ. Johaug has been the best female cross country skier in the world for many years now, she's been winning with landslide margins again and again demonstrating superiority in BOTH classic and skate disciplines. To say that Diggins is a better overall skier than Johaug is comical at best. You must be trolling. Diggins doesn't even master both technical disciplines equally well. It doesn't matter if Johaug isn't a sprinter. Your hero Bulshunov isn't a very strong sprinter either, so your argument doesn't make sense. In the World Championships 2021 Klaebo took 3 gold medals, making him the best male athleter in the whole championships. And in many minds he should have kept the gold in the 50K as well. Second best male skier in the championships was Emil Iversen from Norway. Bulshunov took only 1 gold medal. The Norwegian mens cross country won a whopping 11 medals (5 gold) and it was distributed on 8 different skiers! No way Bulshunov would have won the overall WC 2020/21 if the norskies would have participated in all the races. As mentioned, skiing is about tactics and team efforts as well also in the individual races. Having a strong team benefits the overall contenders. I don't know what the Norwegian commentators are saying cause I don't master their language, but from translated interviews with top Norwegian officials they are known to be quite welcoming when it comes to competition as they want cross country skiing to grow and maintain commercial interest, so I've heard they speak nicely of both the Russians, Swedes, Americans, Germans etc. It's a way of acknowledging others to protect the sport, it's common courtesy.
@@Underhills Oh i see. You're new at following cross country skiing. That's ok. We welcome fans from all over the world! Once again you need to work on your reading skills though. I never wrote Diggins was a better skier than Johaug. No one is disputing she's the best skier in the world and that she because of her overwhelming long distance dominance would win the overall WC. (Like I wrote in my last comment...) What I said was that Diggins is a better ALLROUND skier meaning in both sprint and long distance combined. Johaug has never won in sprint. She doesn't even compete in sprint... Diggins has won both in sprint and long distance on several occasions. And medalled in the Olympics/World championships in both. She may not be best in either of them. But she's among the best when you combine them. That is what allround means. I only brought up Diggins as an example of a rare allround performer which Bulshonov is as well. And which Klaebo has become this year as well but hasn't been before. Petter Northug is problably THE best and the best example of this rare type of skiier in history. So back to the men. Once again you are confusing idividual performance with team performance. How many times do I have to tell you no one is disputing the overwhelming dominance of the norwegian team. The fact that the Norwegian team is so much better than the russian one does not strenghten your argument that Klaebos medals in the team event are worth as mouch as the individual ones. Quite the opposite. Klaebo only took one idividual gold. Bulshunov got a gold and a silver. Iversen would only have taken an individual bronze without the Klaebo/Bulshunov incident (which klaebo himself decided not to appeal) and said himself he only really deserved a bronze so he's not even in the discussion. You argue that Bulshunov would not have won the WC with all the norweigians there yet you seem to completely ignore he did just that in in BOTH the WC and in Tour the ski last year... Bulshunov not strong in sprint? Lol, he has medalled in both sprint and long distance in the olympics/World championships. So he is at least better in sprint than Klaebo is in long distance which is why he won beat him in the overall WC last season. Not sure why you think Bulshunov is my hero. I actually don't like him as a person. Especially after what he did against Mäki in Lahti which should have resulted in a suspension in my book. I Like Klaebo much more. But I though this discussion whas about actual stats and facts and not about emotional opinions? Well, I'm not going to spend any more time on this. Wish you the best.
